    20-25m per?

His max would have him making over 30m at the age of 35 I think. Not sure if he'll get that

Forget the box score watchers who claim Dwight is not giving 100%. Everyone who's watching the games know that he's giving max effort on every play, the only issue being when he whines too much to the refs.

I used to wonder how on earth people are watching the games and saying Dwight doesn't give his all. Then I started watching the boxscores too and realized what was going on. Blatantly obvious.

Indiana, Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Toronto, Washington will all have varying degrees of interest, will offer him 15-20m.

I think we'll keep him on a starting salary of $20m on declining salary scale for 4 years with the least year partially guaranteed. We'll buy him out and he'll retire after 3 years.

I'm sure the guy doesn't want to leave, he genuinely seems to love it here regardless of what's happening on the court.

He's almost certainly going to be offered more than he's worth, and I don't expect the Rockets to match. I also don't think the Rockets have the balls to trade him, so I think they lose him for nothing. This changes if the Rockets have another spectacular playoff run with Dwight playing elite defense. That might loosen up the purse strings.

He will be a max player, the question is whether it makes sense for the Rockets to tie themselves to that contract on a declining player who doesn't play back to backs.

    I say no.

Harden and Kanter are excellent rebounders.

Would DH sign for 20mill per year given he's on more than that now plus with the cap increase?
Also remembering Harden is on less and will obviously get a chunk more when his contract is up.
I'd re-sign Dwight. Problem losing him is who will we get that is better? And will that person accept less? Yes Dwight is declining (but so is LeBron, P.Gasol and every other player over 30), but DH is still a top 5 center.
Don't let the LA based media's hatred of Howard sway your opinion.

    Too soon to tell.

If he's ballin again in the playoffs, he's worth a LOT of money still.

we first need the cap room to sign Durant - then resign Dwight. BUT we go to capspace hell for years to come.

For $20 mil a year, I'd go full balls on Durant's ass. Bye Dwight.

If we were to play out this season with Dwight and he opts out, what is the most we could offer someone else?

I ask this as someone who finds himself contantly defending Dwight. I do not want to see him go, but you have to ask yourself if the money that it will take to keep him would be more wisely spent somewhere else.

If Dwight opts out and they have the option of signing him or Whiteside to the same contract, I think I would prefer Whiteside. Or Durant (if that ends up being an option).

Even at his current level of play, Dwight might be worth a max contract, but the return is lessened if he can't play a full year. And it would be unwise to expect him to do that in any year (much less every year) of his upcoming contract. So I would place more value on a player who might put up less per game if I thought he could put those numbers up night-in and night-out.

Maybe we're not watching the same games, but how is Dwight worth a max contract. He has a few pluses and a lot of minuses, but for a max contract we can either get someone actually worth a max, or a handful of REALLY good players.
