Morey's done with Landry. He made his small investment in Landry by taking him in the 2nd, had Adelman coach and improve his game, made other GMs drool about his efficiency, and then sold off his investment for a huge return. There's absolutely no point for Morey to bring back Landry when he could probably pluck the NEXT Landry in this year's draft on an unguaranteed rookie contract.
This is true with respect to buying low and selling high but I think it's a mistake to believe you can just replace Landry through any given draft. He is a skilled, quality energy player who can give you 16pts 7boards a game. His offensive game, with the range on his jumper and the footwork down low is not quite all-star caliber but it's very good. Those types of guys don't just grow on trees, certainly not ones who will accept their roles and play their ass off with a great attitude the way Carl plays. Having said that, I doubt Carl ever plays for the Rockets again because though I think he's worth the MLE there is a team out there that will surely overpay for him and I doubt Morey will do that.
This. I think Carl's a very solid player for the MLE, but maybe someone will shell out a bit more. He didn't "blow up" with the Kings after the trade, as Stedd pointed out, but he was, well, solid. We kept the best option of the two for the Rocks.
