I was pondering this question today. Brad Miller is available to a team with a 4.5 mil trade exception ie. Pacers or Rockets. I was reading an article on nbatalk that the Heat are trying to complete a three way deal with the Hornets and Pacers. Due to Eddie Jones's BYC, a team like Indiana with a 4.5 mil trade exception would have to sign Brad Miller to that amount to make the deal happen. The Pacers are still unsure if they want to do that. I didnt watch many Hornets games so I dont know enough about Brad Miller to have a clear decision on something like this but would it be smart for the Rockets to commit the 4.5 mil trade exception to him? I know Rudy really liked Miller when he played for him that yr they had to use fill ins for the "Dream Team". ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net [This message has been edited by MManal (edited July 29, 2000).]
Indiana has to do something fast because their exception expires on the Tues.8/1 ! ------------------ Rockets For Better, For Worse......'til death do us part!
I'm not sure Miller is worth 4.5 million, though, probably close. Somewhere in the 3-3.5 mill range is what I'd pay him. The other thing that's dangerous, is we'd have to make a 3 year commitment to him, at the average salary of around 4, 4.5, and 5 mill, a 3 year, 13 mill deal would be somewhat risky. If they resigned him to a 3 year mid level deal (starting at the 2.25), I'd take it, but I'm not sure he would. Also, the question is, would we have to give up picks or anything? Another thing to note on this, is that it doesn't make much sense for Indiana. They already have PLENTY of people they NEED to resign, why would they spend 4.5 EXTRA million, when that's 4.5 they could spread out for Reggie, Jalen, and Croshere, or even offer to Mark Jackson? Would Miller even want to go to Chicago is the question? Also, to play more of a hypothetical role, if we got Miller for a 3 year mid level deal, to make it 4.5 million, Charlotte could throw in 01 free agent Dale Ellis. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas. A team like Chicago that is getting shelled in free agency will over pay Miller. I like Miller, but not for the money is is likely going to get. ------------------
I kind of think it's a bad idea to sign an undrafted big man off a big year to a big contract ($4.5 million qualifies). It's been bad news in the past - Ike Austin and Jim McIlvane come to mind. With Cato and Collier here, he's not going to get that many minutes anyway. You can even throw Tyronne Washington into the mix there. ------------------
