Tell ya what...if that happens, I'll send you a Honeybaked Ham. He can't stay healthy. There's nothing to me that indicates this man is going to be able to play 4 more seasons.

As for trade value...I don't know what you'd get for him...he's an expiring contract, so there's value in that. Maybe someone would take a flier. Maybe an owner would look at Les' business ventures in China (all of which have come since 2002) and think he'd like to take a shot at that connection, as well. Who knows? I certainly don't. I know that if you don't try, you'll never find out, though.

I do know is that the status quo isn't working. That building around a guy who is constantly injured isn't getting us anywhere. And that I'm tired of paying for tickets for a franchise whose greatest accomplishment in 13 seasons is one playoff series victory. I'm not going anywhere as a fan...but it seems pretty clear to me it's time to rebuild...to play young guys...to go find the next guy to build around.

    Aaron Brooks is our starter...PERIOD....

Oh, wait....isn't this the Aaron Brooks vs Kyle Lowry thread, or is this the Yao Haters vs Yao Lovers thread?

    I must be lost...

Did you also notice that "HOUSTON" was back on the jerseys for last season, when Yao was out and the Rockets needed more local support?

Back to the original topic, I agree it's really hard to gauge Yao's true value to the ownership. In fact, I'm not sure what Les would do if he were offered a franchise player or a top 3 pick in a trade for Yao.

I don't think you can really answer the question objectively, but I'll give it a shot. Considering how Houston fans responded to our previous championships and how popular football is around here, I'd say the monetary value of a championship would be relatively short lived. You'd really have to have more of a dynasty to make a lasting impact.

The value of Yao has a lot more promise. I think fans over in China would fade out much slower, as there is little else to replace thier interests. Until another superstar comes over that's in Yao's neighborhood, I think many Chinese fans will hang on to the Rockets as long as Yao isn't playing elsewhere.

But I don't think you can then draw the conclusion that Les values money over winning. I don't think you can say that until we hear of a deal for Yao that unquestionably makes the Rockets better, and I doubt we'll ever hear of one. The fact is that retaining Yao and winning a championship are not mutually exclusive, although that's subjective. it's a risk just like any other risk.

Les and morey have been doing a horrible job. In my opinion. When you have a team that's consistently in the you tweak till you get it right. Not signing Ron arrest was a botched move. I understand numbers but you say you are willing to go over the luxury tax and make an offer that's an insult. Unfortunate for us our two stars got injured but to me its like the Dallas cowboys you get rid of everybody but tony romo and you still end up with the same results. Yao may have made since in that draft but we have been cursed with a soft center who is also a money magnet. So I don't think les is willing to sacrifce his international revenue for a championship. Another thing people in this forum think morey is god. Statistically everyone looks great on garbage teams but look at the team it has generated us. We can t close out games and our supposed superstars disappear in the 4th. Regular season games may I add. Just my frustrations with the rockets and I bleed rockets red.
