26 M Probaly about 50 bucks a week. 20 on groceries which drinks, microwave dinners, snacks. THan around 30 fast food/restaurants...
27 F Austin, TX Most days I can get away with spending $0 on food. But if you consider the cost of groceries divided out each day, I spend somewhere around $3 on food each day. When I do go out for lunch, I won't spend more than $8, and when I go out for dinner, I get really mad if I spend more than $15 ($20 if I get an adult beverage).
Last day for this good healthy "My Fit Foods" prepared meals special weekend deal, $20 off of $35 worth of meals (about 4 medium size meals for $15) http://www.groupon.com/r/uu345433
22 M Austin I'm not real sure, but its pretty low. I've stopped going out to eat altogether. I just like to make sloppy joes, which are pretty cheap and you get a lot of it, and I make a lot of different kinds of sandwiches in my toaster oven. Cereal for breakfast every day.
I don't know how some of y'all do that. I'm on a very restricted budget and try to keep it at $5/person/day. That's: let's say $0.50 for cereal or some sort of breakfast, $1.50 each for a lunch and dinner (usually homemade from Costco ingredients, made in bulk so we can have things to heat up when there's not time to cook), but then $.50 for some sort of snack, and another $1 for drinks/eating out (obviously not every day, but averaging it over time). I've lowered the spending a lot compared to what my life was like in the past, but here are a few things that are hard to do: -replace drinks with water. I know that would be cheaper. I hate the taste of water with meals. I've been drinking generic sodas and making a lot of iced tea at home to reduce cost. -skip meals/ eat tiny meals. We are both pretty active and need the energy. -not eat out. I've tried to cut it down to once a week or less, and to strictly fast food (or buffets at the end of the lunch period, with enough food eaten to count for both meals). But sometimes you just can't think what to cook, or someone wants to spend time with you and it's their idea of a social activity (I try to tell them come over and I'll cook something), or - most often - we're out traveling or running errands and won't be home when it's time to eat. Fortunately we see my mom every few weeks and she can pay for some meals out. Healthy is more expensive. Bulk packages of lettuce/spinach won't keep that long. Whole grain/ multigrain pasta is more expensive than regular pasta. Etc. We have 1 female - 34 - 5'11" (probably really 6'0" but I hate to think about it) and 1 male - 27 - 5'9".
about 10 bucks a day.I am shocked by the people who say like 3 bucks. I mean are you saying grocery is less that 20 bucks a week.
31 5'9" I spend about $10 a day. The only fast food I eat is pizza and I have that about once a week. I don't eat red meat at all. My diet is too high in carbs (I eat a lot of pasta) but my metabolism can handle it. I also eat seafood a few times a week and "fake meat" (micoprotein) 3-4 times a week as well. Loads of natural peanut butter too. Average calories consumed in a day for me is about 2500.
Not sure wtf height has to do with it, but ok. 30 M 6'4" and 29 F 6'0" My wife and I go out for dinner nearly every night, and that usually includes a glass of wine or some other alcoholic drink. We usually buy groceries which covers most breakfasts/lunches. So between the 2 of us, I'd say on average we spend about $45/day.
My diet has changed drastically since this thread. I eat fast food, at most, once a week. I eat salads now, and cut down on the dairy products as much as I can. I eat more fruits and veggies now. I hardly ever drink any soft drinks. I might pick up alchohol and coffee, but for now I like my diet. It's inexpensive, healthy, and efficient. It costs around the same and going to the restroom is much more pleasant.
Nice. You now can refer your family and friends in the next 5 or so hours and supposedly get $10 referral credits as well. My Fit Foods is pretty good meals especially at $4 or so per meal which is what this $20 off weekend special equates to.
Family of 3.5 (infant breastfeeds), I spend $150 a week on groceries, plus $8 a day during the week on lunch. I live in Hoboken, NJ. Used to blow $100-$250 a weekend night on dinners, but then the kids came and we left Manhattan.
Houston 28, 23, 2 3/4 I budget 250 for groceries and a 100 for eating out. I think usually we hit closer to 300 and 150...and that includes Sams Club. We don't get organic, but we do try to eat healthy and balanced meals. If either my wife and I get fast food, that's taken out of each our spending money for the month, so I don't count that. But really, she might eat fast food for lunch like once a week, and the only fast food I eat is Kolache Factory a couple times a month. We almost always eat dinner at home during the week, then eat out on the weekend, but I've been trying to cut that back to every other weekend.
Is that your budget for the week or the entire month? My company pays for my breakfast, lunch, and dinners during the week. I usually eat out on the weekends...mostly Smoothie King for breakfast, casual places for lunch, and then restaurants for dinner. I skip dinner on Sundays though. I think it comes out to roughly $8 a day for the entire week. It's not too bad considering every meal is high quality food. I try to order the healthiest dishes and I have been able to stay in shape, which is why I still continue to go out to eat on the weekends. Plus I look at it from the standpoint that it's my form of entertainment. I never really thought about this until now, but my food expense for the entire year comes out to about $3,000, which isn't too bad at all considering it's my costliest expense.
That's for the month. I think we could stick to 250 if we wanted to, but I think what pushes our expenses up to 300 is the quick trips to the store and stuff we get that's not on the list (we go shopping every two weeks). I think I'm a little worse in that regard. My wife was able to get 2 weeks worth of food for all three of us for about 85 dollars this month...and we still don't need to go back to the store.
