but if he gets the mle next year than it will be a 4 year deal since he would be 31 next year and if they sign him to 5 it takes him past his 36 birthday which would be around 5.5 mil a year + raises of 8% or he could wait another year and sign with houston under a 3 year contract starting at a max of around 9.625 mil a year plus raises of 10.5% which is better?? plus if we really want to retain him we could just sign him to a 1 year mle deal next year and in 2008 sign him using the early bird exception or better yet a 2 year mle deal next year and when we resign him after his 3rd year in 2009 it could be using the lary bird exception for up to the max salary (prollie wouldnt pay him that much but we could pretty much pay him better than anyone else) and the "over 36 rule" wont apply because he will be 33 already so it could be for up to 6 years, prollie wouldnt do that seeing as though hed be under contract till he turns 39, but nonetheless still possible.

another thing i dont understand why didnt he push for a sign and trade to say a 1 year deal with SAC in which if im not mistaken he would have his bird rights and could be resigned by his new team the next year for the max amount?? therefore wouldnt it have been in his best interest to push for SAC to sign him for a 1 year 4.2 mil salary and we could just use our trade exception then sign him next year for whatever we want to give him? by just walking and signing with a different team he foregoes alot of future salary and we are basically limited to offering him the mle next year.

Considering the lack of teams willing to put out a deal above the MLE or be concerned in a sign and trade deal with Denver, to offer more money to Bonzi. Also, take his age into account, next season at 31..it's a fair bet..that'll he go to a place with the MLE and pursue years and preference over money. He won't land a big deal, owners won't go over the luxury tax to give into a solid, good basketball player, he's not someone you build around. Though, I'd keep a fine tune in on Gerald Wallace, I'd love to grab him at MLE price.

I think Sacramento would want a pick back, something I don't think we'd commit to for a 1-year rental.
