I'm a Honda guy... 1985 Honda Civic Hatchback - Brown. Excellent car, had over 100,000 miles on it and could've gone for 100,000 more. Sold it to my cousin who ran the car until it ran out of oil and the car seized up. 1986 Honda Accord 2dr Hatchback - Gold. Wrecked it on 610 at 18th. Some guy in a huge Dodge Ram lost control on the freeway in the rain and slammed into my car. He had a 3" dent in his bumper, my car was totalled! 1988 Honda Civic 4dr - Gold. The non-Honda timing belt gave out with about 30,000 miles before it had to be replaced! Instant death. 2000 Honda Civic Hatchback - Silver. My first new car. Since I've had it, I had a piece of rebar hit my rear quarter panel, dinged it and chipped the paint. Repaired. Then I wacked it with a shopping cart and put a 12" dent on the side. No chipped paint, not yet repaired. My own fault!
1990-1991-- a 1974 VW Bus... Tomato soup red and white two-tone; Porsche 914 engine; top speed over 105 (pinned the needle more times than I can remember)-- a bit scary for a 16 year old kid in retrospect. no tickets 3 accidents retired after the steering column came off in my hands 1991-1997 -- a 1991 VW Vanagon GL Westphalia... Silver with all the cool camping stuff... stove, sink, fridge, pop-up tent and two beds, and a hellishly loud stereo. Blew out a tire driving to Austin on Thanksgiving day, did a 540 on the freeway and rolled off the side of the road near LaGrange. Now shaped like a parallel-a-van at the Austin salvage yard. 2 tickets 2 accidents 2 drug searches in Tennessee... just cause I was a long-haired bass player type... damned hick state troopers 1997-2000 -- a 1966 VW Microbus Deluxe (all shiny black with loads of windows and cool chrome trim)... major restoration project; needed a new engine slightly less than I needed tuition... looking for a new owner. no tickets no seatbelts no run 2000-present -- a 1994 Acura Integra... the sensible girlfriend's sensible car... did I mention it is sensible? No tickets No accidents No fun though... Next car -- a Mini Cooper... hmm

1984 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royal Brougham (The Land Yacht) Driven: 1989-1994 Tickets: Two Accidents: One...not my fault Overall: THIS was the perfect high school date car. Other than that...it was fun to drive and it was durable. I was very upset when the transmission dropped and the head gasket went out. More expensive to fix than to replace. 1989 Toyota Camry LX (The Silver Bullet) Driven: 1994-1997 Tickets: NONE Accidents: NONE Overall: The most fun to drive of any car I have ever driven. I LOVED this car. Ran like a top...and would still be running perfectly today. NEVER in the shop. It was stolen out of my apartment complex parking lot in September 1997. 1991 Mercury Sable (The POS) Driven: 1997-2001 Tickets: NONE Accidents: NONE Overall: I hated this car. There was nothing redeeming about this car. It was in the shop AT LEAST 5 times a year. I'll never buy a Mercury EVER AGAIN!!!! 2001 Nissan Maxima (The Salvation From the POS) Driven: 2001-Present Tickets: NONE Accidents: NONE Overall: I bought this car with 10,000 miles on it. I love it. Sure I'd rather have an Infinity...but that'll come in time. No real problems yet. Not as good as that 1989 Camry though.
1976-77 Beat up 1965 yellow Mustang with holes in the floorboard to let water shoot through when going over a puddle. 1977-1980 1971 Yellow Ford F-100 with 3-speed column shifter. Sweet. 1980-1982 1980 Datsun 200sx--totalled by a drunk driver on MLK in Austin (I was OK). Mine was red. 1982 My Mom's old Olds 88. 1982-1986 1979 Audi Sedan with sunroof. A cool car for college and graduate school. 1987-1994 1987 Mazda 626--A nice economical car for the early years of responsibility. 1994-Present Mazda Navajo 2003--Something new or slightly used.
if you get one, go to Louisiana to get it. I hear the Houston dealerships are charging a serious premium and delivery dates are like months away. The Baton Rouge dealership has them on the lot and they're not charging as much as Houston. Post from a Mini Cooper forum
1988 Toyota Camry - went through 3 wrecks 1 of which was my fault . Got 1 ticket for the wreck. Ended up getting rid of it in 1997 after about 150k miles I believe before it started giving me engine problems. Outside of that, it was a very reliable and dependable car. 1997 Nissan Maxima - It's got 115k miles on it although the first 2 or so years I was averaging about 30-35k miles per year. Things have slowed down now that I live 1 mile from work. I've had one unscheduled repair on it (speedo went out and it was covered by warranty). Very reliable car that I plan to drive into the ground (ie, hopefully get about 200k miles out of - or more if possible). No tickets.
I'm gonna win the most unusual car lineup...hands down 1) 1972 AMC Gremlin 1982-1984 Little faded puke green p.o.s. Ford straight 6 motor with a 3 speed manual tranny I dogged the sheet outta it and it never broke down (except the plastic bushings in the shift linkage poppin out) I got it second hand from my grandmother after it had been hit in the back..the damage was little but the car wasnt worth enuff to bother fixing it. Had a killer stereo you could hear from 2 blocks away..turned out to be a great little car.. 0 Tickets 1 accident 2) 1976 Ford Gran Torino...aka "The Land Yacht" absolutely the best car I have ever had..had a strong 351M motor with 400 heads..gotten second hand from my dad. Used to stuff 9 ppl in it with alarming regularity...Had a nice little stereo system that was louder and clearer than the one in my previous car. Was a mix and match system with parts from those electronics clearance sells they used to have twice a year. I blew the motor one cold winter morning in 1984, luckily I was in motor class at the time..so I rebuilt it. 1 ticket 0 accidents During the interim, I drove a... 3) 1972 Dodge Dart Ragged out old p.o.s with a slant 6 225 and an auto 3 spd. nasty drier, nasty looker...just plain nasty...but the motor was bulletproof and had a ton of power.. 0 accidents 1 ticket 4) Back to the Torino... ran great...I had shaved the block and ported and polished the heads..Put a four barrel on it..for a 6200 lb car, it would haul ass. Right after the breakin period, I raced a hopped up Firebird and whooped up on it off the line..just barely beat it in the quarter.. Friends used to refer to it as "The party machine" because I had the biggest car of all of us, so everyone would load in it to go out.. 5) 1979 Olds Delta 88 Big, brown four-door junker with one of the early GM V-6's in it...Not much power, but a smooth driving car. 0 accidents 0 tickets 6) 1989 Pontiac Gran Prix Best. car. ever. 2.8 V6 smooth driver, lots of power for a V6.. Drove it till it had 235,000 miles and the bearings started to knock. Anyone want a GP that needs a new motor for $100? Still sittin out in front of my house.. 0 accidents 1 ticket Right now Im driving a company truck (1990 Toyota) till I get out of bankruptcy in a couple of months. Then I'm probably gonna get my first brand new car..Probably one of the Widetrack Gran Prix GTs with the 3800 supercharged motor.. Those cars are flat out kick butt.. See if anyone can beat that? Given the average age of the cars when I got em..I have been exceedingly lucky to not have to pump a ton of money into any of these cars..(except for the motor)..

1991-1994 1991 300 ZX - Red, the first Love of My Life. To this day the 300ZX and its sexy body style and simplicity make my heart quiver. Made High School a little funner till my brother totaled it. 1994-1997 1993 Honda Preleude - Very reliable fun car to drive. But was a step down in power and fun from the 300ZX 1996-1998 1997 Mustang Cobra - I know, I know. I got into a Power and Speed Phase. Of course once I figured out a Mustang, irregardless to whether it was a cobra or not, handled like a tractor, I sold it quickly 1999 - 2002 1997 Lexus SC400 - A great, reliable car that I bought from my dad. Its quick, has an amazing, smooth ride and have never had a problem with it. FUTURE: The Lexus is up for sale, i'm hoping to get a 2001 911 Carrera or I might buy and SUV and then me and my brother want to split a super exotic car for the weekends. Either a : 2001 911 Twin Turbo 1997 355 Ferrari 2000 Lotus Esprit (problems out the wazoo!) The Porchse is probably the least exotic looking, but the most reliable and cheapest to maintain. And something about a warranty makes me feel VERY safe!! A friend of mine has a Lotus and his water pump has broken twice costing him $3000 each time!!
