Personally I think it is fake but that is beside the point. It wasn't for a joke it was because we were in a space race with the Russians and we needed to comfort the US citizens that our Technology which includes space travel was far superior to the the Russians. Remember it was the Russians who put the 1st satellite in space and every US citizen was paranoid because they thought they were being watched or our secrets were being picked up by the satellite. We had a point to make and it was to the rest of the World that nobody can underestimate our technological advancements. We were to be in the forefront with modern science and till this day. Think about the feat in order to achieve a trip to the damn Moon. Look at how many millions (100's) and computer processing it took to land a non manned machines on Mars. Remember back then that the Super Nintendo of the 90's had more computing power than the NASA control console in Houston during the 1st landing on the Moon.
How did we ever build planes, cars, atomic bombs, etc. without all of the computing power we have today?
don't you think it's a little different in space? Common man there isn't a North,East,South,West. You just can't say "I see the moon and I'm going to go there in a straight line and back". The computations it takes to achieve something like that is CRAZY!!! not to mention the millions possibilities that could of went wrong on 1 of the instrumental panels in the Vacuum of space. Sure we sent people to space and it took literally Dozens and Dozens of dead monkeys to figure how it works. But were talking about the moon Millions of miles away and we didn't even send a monkey there to see what would happen. We were in a desperate situation because of the Russians.
Wow. 1. brainwashed thousands of NASA employees, many of them incredibly smart. 2. severely brainwashed dozens of astronauts who believe they either orbited the moon, landed on the moon, or both. 3. built the world's most powerful rocket, at fantastic expense, just to fool the masses on the ground and further fool the astronauts, who must have fallen into hallucinagenic trance shortly after achieving orbit. 4. Synthesized moon rocks and moon dust in a laboratory... samples which are still being studied (as material unique from that of Earth) in geology laboratories today. 5. Created sets, films and special effects decades ahead of their time. 6. Ran bizarro Apollo 13 fake mishap for... attention? because we ran out of incredibly authentic but somehow fake moon rocks? 7. Guessed and then faked surprising measurement of asymmetry of moon's gravitational field (as encountered by orbiting craft) that was later verified by more modern and precise techniques from Earth. 8. Somehow faked the hull solar radiation damage expected for a craft that transits to the moon and back. Nevermind the previous points made or that you can see the evidence sitting on the moon. Just... amazing. How much hope can we have of avoiding another dark age, when people won't hold onto a basic fact for 40 years? edit: PS -- it is not "millions of miles." The moon is only about 30 earth diameters from us!
Those old timers like Newton and Galileo did a lot of good computation without the benefit of any computers. You kind of lose credibility when you say the moon is MILLIONS of miles away when it's not even 250,000 miles away.
Ugh!! Just to enlighten you that you can find MARTIAN (Mars), Moon Rock, ETC on Earth.. Now do I have to explain how they got here? It's not like a little fairy decided to go to the other planets and put them all over earth because they were pretty.

It isn't just Apollo 13 that had problems. The so called "fake" Apollo 11 that first landed had problems as well. I believe Mike Collins who was piloting the craft while the moon lander went down to the moon had to readjust in order to restore connection with the mission control. They nearly had to abort the "fake" moon landing. There was an alarm that went off on Apollo as well. That turned out to be ok. It is absurd to think that they could pull off such a hoax. Look at how the govt. ran the reconstruction of Iraq. Somehow the govt. which couldn't do that worth a crap was able to successfully pull off a fake lunar landing with 'fake' mishaps?
I read years ago that NASA actually "lost" the technology they used to go to the moon. And just recently there was a report that they "lost" the original tapes from the mission. This seems pretty impossible. I'm not saying that we have never been there, but it seems pretty unlikely that those two things above could occur.
And of course, we have thousands of thousands people in on it, and no one blabbed. Uh huh, uh huh - and if you do blab, you can get a lot of fame, fortune, etc. etc. T3h jooz, obviously.
