Great post. Yes the offense is very YMCA like. Its either going to look like a thing of beauty, or complete trash. Sometimes this can happen in the same game (Minnesota game bring back any memories).

However, for this team I do feel like its a great move this year to play this way. No way a team this young could just pick up an NBA play book, and run it in their sleep in year one together enough to even have a chance at sniffing the playoffs in a deep Western Conference. So "Letting them play" in year 1 was the right move for now. It will help them create continuity this season, and gain confidence together moving forward. Keep it simple in year one, and let them grow from there with some success to build on.

In the future, I do think they will need a little more structure to the offense especially in half court sets. Create some movement/back cuts, etc. NBA offense can work on a simplistic level over time. The better the players you have the more simple the offense can be... see the 94/95 Houston Rockets.

For now, this system is probably the best bet to get wins against good teams. You try to run the triangle or princeton sets right now with this green squad, they would be lucky to win 20 games this year.
