Once the 3s do not fall, offense instantly becomes a problem though.

I know we have much to desire in having a better defensive plan/system.

But it's clear we scored way below our average, so that pretty much sums up tonight's game.

Agreed with the exception of tonight....a bit more offense would be very helpful. 10 points in one quarter....

McHale is a terrible coach, we all know that. But we're stuck with him for the forseeable future and he's too stubborn to get any better, so we might as well stop beating this dead horse.

What I get out of that is we need offensive sets that aren't predictable but I understand why McHale might have preferred this type of offense. First it fits the crew, (Harden is an efficient ISO player and the rest are good shooters). The only caveat is when everybody's shooting poorly and when Harden is too tired or too guarded well to penetrate. Multiple PNR can be good for us. How about a high post PNR between Harden, JLIN and Asik? The only problem is that Asik should be enough threat offensively to make it work. This is why an offensive FF or center might make this work. Previously, Morris and Peterson are benefited by this type of offense because they can shoot. DMO is still learning.

We also need defense. Defense means we need a good set of backups since defense will take its toll on our starters. At the very least, backups should be able to keep the score close for at least 5-10 mins (or more) in order to give enough rest to the starters. A good backup for Harden is a must so he can give something to the defense also. I understand when Harden conserves his energy on defense because he's forced to shoulder it all in the offensive end. This is also why Lin and Parsons need to do their jobs. Lin being the PG and provide some extra "Harden-ing" and defensive presence in the perimeter and Parson's good shooting and hustle on the board. Without this, we'll play poorly during the playoffs.

Rockets shot poorly from behind the arc, Warriors got back in transition D and mostly stopped the fast breaks, and Harden wasn't getting free throws from Eurostepping to the rim....

What else could go wrong ?

What does it mean to 'come out with no energy?'

Wtf does that actually mean? Like on NBA2k13 when you come out and immediately you need a gatorade? What I dont get it. How can you always say that after every loss.

This team has won more games than everyone expected, now you blame the offense?

You play the game with who you have. Rockets doesn't have a low-post threat. They have three guys who can put the ball on the floor, and create scoring opportunity, but none them has a low-post game. Their best chance is penetration, and kick to outside shooters.

Maybe next year, or in two years, but they are just not good now.

Putting AB in and not setting him up for shots. Going away from the postgame for DMo. The list goes on and on.

Complete bull****. People "expected" us to accomplish less BEFORE we signed Harden, Lin, and Asik. That changed the equation. Now, we should expect no less than a playoff calibre team.

It's not about Jeremy Lin, though. You're too jaded when it comes to Lin.
Its about letting a capable point guard play the point. There's a time and place for iso-Harden/squre offense like when it was working the previous game or at the end of games when we need to close with a predictable go to set.

Any guards heavy teams won't go far anyway. This team needs to find some legitimate bigs.

my appreciation for mchale went from a lot to almost non existent, but when the shots aren't falling there isn't much you can do.

How about moving DMo closer to the rim and more twin-tower post offense when our threes still were not falling after close to two quarters?

The Warriors had played us three time before last night's fourth game. They knew our offense would come either at the rim or from the perimeter. When our perimeter shooting won't fall, yes it became easier for them in the paint. But shouldn't we even try?

Or if McHale still believed that his four-out strategy would eventually work out against a 3P% of less than 20%, could he just bring up other good 3P shooters like Anderson and AB for a change of luck?

There are other things we could do if our coaches would just think out of the box.

Couple of things that we already know:

    1. McHale often likes to run a YMCA type of offense. Go to your local Y, find the best player on the court. Watch his teammates set some picks for open shots. Also, take note of the limited defense and constant running up and down the floor. Almost forgot, you'll notice some of the big guys that should play in the post trying to shoot 3s and ill-advised jumpers. They probably don't like to go for rebounds or play much defense. Ask if their favorite Rocket is Dmo. ;)

    2. The team did not play well and we were defeated, but that has absolutely nothing to do with McHale. Remember, we are the youngest team in the league, so we should expect this to happen. Even Kevin said as much. :p

    3. The offense used to run a but more smoothly. We had this guy named Patrick Patterson who was really efficient at making open jumpers. Sometimes, automatic. Well, we decided to trade him for a younger guy with raw talent. Poor guy airballed an uncontested dunk last night. It's okay though, he will be an asset.:)
