Grady was part parcel to the infamous "Trio That Plays Too Slow". The Rockets got rid of Alston. Brooks, Barry, Wafer, Lowery, Artest and Scolandry easily compensate for Battier's complete lack of transition O. This season's success factor is rooted firmly in playing the game at a faster pace. The Spurs force everyone into their grind it out style while they let Parker go coast to coast...the Rockets played the Spurs even in transition O...something the Trio That Plays Too Slow NEVER did. Grady brings nothing to the table in transition. Not optimistic in a tight economy, but looking forward to whatever his expiring contract brings in.
Well we're all entitled to an opinion. I personally miss T-Mac. I believe he was hurt and unable to perform at a T-Mac level. Yes that was definitely hurting the team and I'm glad he shut it down. We can argue the lack of T-Mac/Artest chemistry, but they NEVER had a chance to play when both were healthy!
Good question. I refuse to believe this team is better without a healthy T-Mac, but its gotta be hurting his ego tremendously to watch this team go 15-4 and obtain the 2nd seed in the WC since he shut it down for good. I can pretend to be in his shoes, but how awful, terrible, horrible would it be if we do make the 2nd round? Regardless of what happens, I hope instead of getting depressed at what is happening, it is motivating him. He is still a relatively young guy, he has ample experience, and his body still has the ability to among the best. Do it to it T-Mac.
There may also be 2 or 3 games where whoever replaces him doesn't settle for a long contested jump shot in crunch time. Just sayin... I am fully aware of McGrady's statistical feats in the playoffs but when it is crunch time and the tension is high, your top perimeter player shouldn't be settling for long, contested, outside jumpers every time down the court. Game 7, two years ago, we were up 5 on the Jazz at home with several minutes left in the game and had them in the penalty. None of our perimeter players made them pay by taking into the basket. Scoring 30 points per game is great but it's what you do in the last few minutes of close playoff games that determines who wins and who goes home. Guys like Artest, Lowry and Wafer may not have the credentials that McGrady has, but they are willing to take it to the basket and aren't afraid of contact. That was a missing element on the last few playoff teams.
I have to admit, at first, like most of us, I was extremely angry at the guy, but at times this season, I do miss the player Tracy was. This is not to say that I miss the type of player he's become, and I do believe the days of a dominant T-mac is past. The type of basketball he was playing the past two seasons have been disappointing to say the least; however, at least he tried last season. Brooksball, you're exactly right. That was exactly what I was thinking two years ago. Tracy got us into position to win the game, but also lost it for us. However, Artest did the same things many times this year. I wouldn't say he's always willing willing to take it to the hole.
We can carry him to the second round. If we win a championship, does he not get a ring as well? Darko Milicic got one, T-Mac will be considered a 2nd rd virgin no more.
Up until this year, without McGrady, there wouldn't be a crunch time. There wouldn't even be a 1st round postseason appearance. Things should change this year thanks to Morey though. Lets hope unlike last year, we don't suffer inexplicable injuries to our best role players like Battier and Alston last season.
get yourself out of t-mac's shoes and get back in your own. i never thought i'd hear a rockets fan say that!
