I've been a fan since 86 but joined when we traded for Artest and AB had me excited that we may end up with a better guard than Rafer Alston or Luther Head.
Do people really need to run the internet fanhood ideological purety test even now? Yao's retired, after only playing 5 games over the last 2 years. Whenever you became a Rockets fan and for whatever reason you became a Rockets fan, if you are still watching and rooting for the team now, I think it's safe to say that you are not just doing it out of fanhood for Yao Ming. Do we really need to have Chinese Communist-style struggle sessions to root out "Yao Only Fans"?
I came here because of Yao. It was sad that the fun had ended with his career cut short. I don't follow Rockets as much without Yao as i do with him religiously. If Rockets are good, i definitely rooting for them. It is sad that time move so fast....that's why i guess people say "cherish every moment of life" because you might not get another chance.
Me but I didnt know this website until mid 2010... I could have joined this site if I know it 4-6 years ago.
I was a fan because of the 89 rockets with Plantain, but lost interest after the 97 season and got interested again after the mac trade
Same story as OP. Came to cc because of Yao, but soon became a Rockets fan because of our never quitting culture. I just hope we will stick to that and never add "tanking" to our goals in the future.
Similar story: loved the Rockets since coming to Houston in 1990. My friend in 2002 told me we should draft a 7'6" Chinese guy he read about on here and I nearly flipped. I wanted Amare Stoudemire or Caron Butler. He showed me the website, and I stuck around. And if my fandom comes into question because I technically came here for Yao...the username should show that I am up to date with obscure Rockets references and a fan.
