I came here to be an asset. Seriously though I came here because of tmac when he got traded at about the age of 12. Been Here since.
A better question, for younger people in houston. How many of ya'll started following basketball because of yao and tracy? Thats why i started following this team and ever since i'v loved basketball.
I came during the Rockets' 22 game winning streak. And Mcgrady's 13 points in 33 seconds. Yao was just the star to finish off the Christmas tree.
This is typical simplistic prejudice. I came here because of Yao, but I had been a Rockets fan since before Yao was born (possibly before YOU were born). So what am I? When the Rockets drafted Yao, I was extremely skeptical about this 7'6 dude from China. So I went on the internet to search for any credible information about Yao Ming. And I found this site, saw some video footage here about the big guy and was convinced we picked the right player. But one of the first things that impressed me was reading Dr of Dunk recounting his summer league experience. That was the coolest thing I'd seen on any fan site. I have been addicted since then.
Yes, OP, that's me. Seriously I got into (back into) basketball when I went on shore duty (Navy) and had time for it. Came to the team for Yao and started supporting Tmac (vs Kobe with a friend) so i started becoming more infused with the team. Became more of a fan watching my first ever draft and growing with Aaron Brooks. Being a defensive style player I started appreciating Battier even more so and when Artest came I was just enthusiastic. Even though the player that brought me here isn't playing with us anymore, through drafts and trades and multiple season and two horrid media-core seasons, I am still following faithfully. I will say this, if San Diego ever gets another team, I will follow them as well. I also live in Houston now, going to live games had a small impact on that.
So does that make you an ignorant fan or does that make Yao only fans ignorant for still watching the rockets after the retirement of the Great Wall?
Very true, watched the rockets when i was like 7 years old no father so my mother threw me in front of the tv to watch sport which was Hakeem vs Shaq Finals, No one man or fan is bigger then the Rockets baby #Followme
