I am with you on the number of wins but I am a little bit apprehensive about the impact of McGrady, if he returns. His presence, or absence for that matter, may still impact the team either way.

Here is to hoping that the Rockets win more than what I think.

If someone can tell me how many games Tracy McGrady plays, then I can tell you how many games the Rockets win.

It is, isn't it? I was noticing that, too.

However, it is a bit more skewed towards the upper end than I had expected coming in. But, since we are mostly all Rockets fans here, I guess it is to be expected that this kind of a poll might have a slightly positive bias to it.

This team is a 50-win team with either a healthy Yao or T-mac.

If both were healthy, we'd be talking championship aspirations.

Like I said, if T-mac returns before Dec 1st and he is healthy - a big if of course...this team will win 50 games.

i think we will have a .500 November, a .550 december, and start taking off about jan or feb.

A lot has to do with scheduling and the health of everyone else of course. But even assuming we don't get much out of the new guys, I think 50 games is at least 50-50.

50 wins is definitely a stretch, but put me in for it before the bandwagon starts and before the AB jerseys double in value, and Scola makes his evening talk show circuit.

if we have a good start, gain momentum, 45-49 win is quite possible. (No serious injuries)

It's funny you mention the so-called experts. I just read the Chronicle's season preview, and the paper predicts that the Rockets will be 40-42 (9th) in the Western Conference. I'm OK with that.

But what I'm not OK with is that they also predict that the OK City Thunder will make a 23 game jump (46-36, 8th in the West) and make the playoffs. It's possible, but I don't see that big of a jump.

I selected 30-34 wins. However, if we have any significant injuries, I don't think 15-20 wins is out of the question.

I love Daryl Morey - but I don't buy this whole "the sum is greater than the parts" crap some people are talking. I am not optimistic that McGrady will return to his former All-Star level and we have nobody else remaining on our roster who is anywhere close to an All-Star level talent. You can only go so far with a team of solid role players.

We still had Ron Artest. And the Lakers had no idea what Adelman would do without Yao. They had no game plan for it. Opposing teams will have plenty of time to gather data on what our team will be doing without Yao and T-Mac this year. I really can't believe how optimistic this board is about this team. I love my Rockets dearly. I will support them regardless of their record, but this is just blind homerism. I just can't see any reason to think the Rockets will be good this year. In fact, I think the only teams in the Western Conference that have a less impressive roster than the Rockets are the Timberwolves and the Kings. But I guess we'll see.

Check this out. Here are predictions of ESPN's so-called experts with regards to the Rockets this year:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/preview2009/news/story?page=Predictions0910-Rockets

The problem I have with all of these people is that they seem to know about four or five teams really well, all the usual suspects as it were, and for other teams like the Rockets they just take a superficial glance, and otherwise rely on some sort of crib notes as the basis for their opinions. These people do not know this team. If you were to sit each of these people down, and slowly walk them through the two-deep depth chart, they would probably change their tune a bit.

    Let's do that, shall we?

C - Hayes, Anderson or Pops
    PF - Scola, Landry
    SF - Battier, Buddinger
    SG - McGrady, Ariza (eventually)
    PG - Brook, Lowry

With that line-up, the Rockets will be weak at center and strong at every other position. Of course, that depends on McGrady returning in November and staying healthy for the rest of the season. But if that happens, these guys are probably not going to be a bad team at all.

And if a healthy Yao is added to that line-up next year, this team should contend for the NBA title.

If we could get the so-called experts to consider what we have here, they might stop being so negative all the time.

Im saying 40-45 because Im a huge rocket fan, but until they get legitimate shotblocker, reality is probably going to be in the 35-39 area. I see the team having problems manufacturing points especially after 6-10 games when oppossing teams figure out their offensive liabilities ie.Hayes, Battier ect. The big wildcard is going to be T-Mac and at what level of play he comes back at. Hope Im wrong.

i put only 6 teams from the west better than the rockets, that being lakers, spurs, hornets,mavs,blazers,nuggets.. jazz will have a bad year, so will the suns, all the other teams are a joke, there is reason to be optimistic my friends, ron artest was probably a reason we lost to the lakers, he wasn't doing anything on d, and he held the ball way too long at times and make dumb mistakes, ariza has gotten better and shown he is a great defender, a slasher and can hit the 3 better than artest did, this team also has one year of chemistry now, anderson is very underrated, he is an okur type player, chuck is a solid defender, carl is only getting better, brooks can score easy, kyle off the bench is a beast, shane is shane, scola will do what he does 15 and 10 a game, and when mcgrady is back next month, there is no reason to think we dont win at least 50, im saying 53 wins

    Right at the .5 line.

If the team can get split 4 games with the Champ. The team will be able to split the season.

I refuse to answer this poll because there's no "82" option. Selecting "55 or more" would be an insult to a team with this much heart, courage, grit, and heart.
