The Las Vegas Hilton had the over/under on the Rockets season wins at 47.5 yesterday. I am going this weekend so I might make a bet on it. Last year the line was at 37 and I cleaned up

It doesn't gain me anything except to balance out the pessimism.

Sure the pessimist can enjoy a successful season but the pessimist can also make others miserable with a constant woe is me drumbeat. Its a cliche but it is true, there is a reason why they play the games. I would rather just sit back watching the season unfold than mope and mutter about doom and gloom before the regular season has even started.

Last year I said about 45-48 wins and it looked good until around February. This year, I say they will win 52 games and finish as the 4th or 5th seed.

I had to pick the 50-54 only because it was the option closest to my number. My prediction would have been 52-56 though. The reason I choose the 50-54 is because the 54 is the median pick of 52-56. I think they will be somewhere in there.

    I'd say 73-9!!

But injuries are apart of the game so I'll scale it down to 55-27!!

Yeah sportsbook is setting the over/under for Houston at 47.5 wins, I'm tempted to place a bet on the over.

How does it work? If I bet $100 that the Rockets will be over, how much money can I make?

Looks like they only have odds for a few teams so far, not sure how that works with the odds if they aren't displayed, maybe a veteran gambler would know. They are probably waiting to see which side of the line people are betting and will set odds accordingly.

Betus.com (check the basketball futures section) has the line at 48.5 wins with odds at -115 (meaning you would need to bet $115 to win $100)

The Rockets are looking good against the Spurs at halftime, and are playing well into their bench. It seems that every player that is playing is helping the team in noticeable ways.

As stated elsewhere, the final cuts have been made. Here is the opening day roster in a depth chart format:

PG Aaron Brooks / Kyle Lowry / Ishmael Smith
SG Kevin Martin / Courtney Lee / Jermaine Taylor
SF Shane Battier / Chase Budinger
PF Luis Scola / Chuck Hayes / Jared Jeffries / Patrick Patterson
C Yao Ming / Brad Miller / Jordan Hill

This team is deep, deep, deep and should be competitive every night, with any team in the NBA this year, whether home or away.

I see them about where they were 2 years ago when they finished 53-29 and just missed out the #2 seed. The team is much deeper now, and I think Yao will hold up throughout the season with his minute limit. I think they will improve and finish 55-27 and will be in the hunt for one of the top 3 seeds in the final week of the season. A Southwest Division title could be there for the taking as long as the Mavs or Spurs don't throw up 60 wins.

I printed out the schedule and went through it marking Wins and Losses and other then a tough road trip in late January early Feb. (4 road games in six nights all against tough western conference foes) that i have us going 1-3 in. I think it is realistic to say this team can win anywhere from 53-57 games anything under 53 we should be disappointed.....

Three days until it begins. Los Angeles should be a good test. I just keep remembering this team taking the Lakers to seven games in the 2009 Playoffs with Yao riding the bench after game two. Maybe you guys see it differently, but I think this is a better team than that one was, and that team won 53 games in 2008-2009.

Last year I picked 45 wins and I overestimated them.

This year I think I'm being a little more pessimistic with 49 wins.

The NBA season is underway, with Miami facing off against Boston on TNT. The Rockets will open their season later tonight against the Lakers. There are only a couple more hours left to make a prediction about the Rockets upcoming season before the season begins.

I hope the Rockets pound the Lakers severely on national TV for the whole country to see. That would be a super way to start off the year.
