It's better to have loved and lost than to have a team that is essentially unlovable.

I don't think they are so unlovable. Just inept last year, thanks to Dom Capers and Casserly.

let's just give up on a team that's 4 years old b/c that's plenty of time to have already cultivated a rich history of winning.

they're bland, they're safe, that's part of their problem. I'm not just talking about not drafting young, or drafting mario. i'm talking everything down to the team color and name. they have no personality, as much as they tried to make david the face of franchise. that has only caused him some backlash from the fans.

i like the team colors and name. i think their logo looks great.

What are you trying to say? Prior to 2 years ago, the Astros had never even WON a playoff series. Heck, the 1986 playoffs scarred me as a child. Talk about baseball futility. Yet, I still had positive feelings towards the Astros prior to their recent success. Why? Because I loved the players. Biggio. Bagwell. Dickie Thon. Terry Puhl. Mike Scott. Kevin Bass. Nolan Ryan. The list goes on.

Now move on to football. I feel the same way about the Oilers. They may not have won much, but I used to LOVE going to games with my dad during my childhood. The Oilers may have losing in their blood, but at least they were interesting and had character. House of Pain. Ernest Givin's Electric Slide. The awesome Warren Moon. Buddy Ryan vs. Kevin Gilbride. Curtis Duncan. The rivalry with the Steelers. Luv Ya Blue. Earl Campbell. The list goes on and on.

I agree with pgabriel. The Texans are bland and so completely... corporate, like every decision they make is first thoroughly researched and tested with focus groups and consultants. They remind me of an old grandmother who insists on putting a plastic cover over her nice couch to be "safe." Sure, the couch is completely protected, but it doesn't feel good to sit on.

Remember that teams are in fact made up of individual players. We need individual storylines, fan favorites, and a little controversy to keep us invested and involved. We need role models, idols, and yes, even deviants. Otherwise, the team has no character or personality whatsoever, and you just end up rooting for the concept of a faceless "Houston" pro team, a rather bland proposition if you ask me. I liken it to playing the crappy "10 Yard Fight" for the NES with its lack of actual players. It's just a vanilla football video game without being able to identify with the players.

Nobody said that YOU have to give up on them my friend. I dont' really consider myself giving up on them anyway, I did put "cheer for both" on the poll and explained why in a rather lengthy post a few days ago. But considering that was never really that into them, I don't know if it counts as giving up anyway.

Perhaps I'm just too old too care anymore now that I've moved out of Houston and maybe that's it (I don't think so though, I mean I was rooting as hard for the Longhorns this past season as I ever have for any team, as much because of Vince than for anything else, and I haven't been to Austin in ages) perhaps I've just soured on the NFL in general after the Oilers experince and what just seems like a boring league overall. I don't know. At the risk of beating a dead horse, what I'm saying is that the utter mediocrity of the franchise, even on the low curve given for expansion teams - doesn't inspire fanatical loyalty on my part.

The same way i'm rooting for the Clippers because of Cassell and Cat, I will root for VY and the Titans. Those aren't my number one teams obviously, but when the matchup is right I will be rooting for them.

Pure class, Bud. The giant F U is that Bud Adams is going to die alone and unloved. He will never win a Super Bowl and he will be buried in a horrible toupe. Screw the Titans. Viva Texans!

Memory blanks. Pretty much sums it up.

No need to apologize, Sam. From what I've seen of you around this site, I determined you were pretty sorry awhile back.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way up to Possum Holler. As I said, you're gonna fit right in up there.

I've always liked the Titans and will follow them, but I wouldn't say left the Texans...I hope VY has an amazing career and at least we'll see him twice a year...

I was trackin' right up to here.

Uh, did you catch the draft this past weekend? So after all the research and focus groups and consultations, MARIO WILLIAMS was the "safe" pick?

I'm not really sure why you give a damn who my favorite football team is, but I appreciate the interest, COLT45 SUPERFAN.

Aside from the fact that your correction of a type-o has really put me in my place, I'm not going anywhere (despite your attempts to slam the ClutchFans Texans Astros Comets E-Door in my face! How E-mbarrassing!), so you're sh-t out of luck my friend, COLT45 SUPERFAN.

i don't think anyone really cares who's someone's favorite team is. and if you (general you) don't like a certain team anymore for whatever reason, that's fine. if you then say you'll never support or cheer for that team, that's fine too. what irks me is that you (general you again) continue to bash the team when you've clearly stated you don't care anymore.

what's the point in that? it's okay to criticize moves made by your team. but to throw out insults and make claims that are clearly subjective as facts doesn't make you right.

and if you truly don't care about the team anymore, then now you're just bordering on trolling.

I don't know how it could be trolling given the thread title/subject matter.

What is trolling is when the superfans come in and blab "Don't let tha door hit ya on the way out 2 teh hixville".

If they merely read the thread, specifically the first post I made back on page one, they'd realize I said I'd do nothing of the kind. As I've said before I voted "cheer for both" on the poll.

i wasn't specifically talking about you and i understand the subject of the thread. but there are countless others who are doing what i said in my previous post. and not just in this thread.
