If your right then who roots for the Texans? I figure half of Houston is still fans of the Cowboys. So your saying a large chunk of the other half is Titans fans. I doubt it.

I will never root for the Titans.

I did after they left town for a few years but I was young and stupid to know better.

I'm still ticked about our pick. I haven't gotten into the Texans like I was into the oilers and titans for a few years. Part of that is that I don't live in Houston and another part is that I dont really have a favorite player on the team.

I love Yao Ming, Drexler, Horry, Dream, Francis, Bagwell, Berkman, Cammy. Those guys are why I love the the Astros and Rockets so much.

The Texans are meh. I haven't gotten really into them I watch all their games and follow them closely. But there isn't that one player that I just look forward to watching every game. I hope Mario will do that for me but I doubt it. Vince and Reggie would have done that for me and so many other fans.

I'm not a bandwagoner this is my team forever aslong as there in Houston. I was just really looking forward to getting into the Texans the same way I am with the rockets/astros. I hurt when they lose.

I hope I get to that point soon I really want too. I think it will happen when I move back to Houston.

Which would have landed us VY or most probably ML before bush, had last year's results been the same....

And I prefer to have a 4 year veteran at QB (as is) with the same team and a new outlook on offense, and a beefed up defense.... just like it is now.

Either way, years 4-6 are the earliest I would have expected to see a hint of the playoffs... well... one down, two to go.

    ;)

btw- I will cheer for both, and always pull for the TEXANS to win in every head-to-head matchup. It's more fun to beat a good team anyway.

    Still a Houston Texans fan.

I was a Houston Oilers fan
I kind of kept track of the Tennessee Oilers
I was never a Tennessee Titans fan what so ever.

Ditto. I am not a (insert name)OF. I care about the team. What's happening to the Texans now happened to the Rockets a couple of years ago.

I've follwed the Titans/Oilers since i was a lil boy in the early 80's. When Houston finally got another team i started following the Texans. Now i follow both teams. Although since Mcnair is about to be traded/released the only person left with a houston oiler connection is Jeff Fischer. Once he's gone as the coach then my interest with the Titans will probably fade out.

i can't wait till the Texans start winning. it may not be this year, hell it may not even be next year, but don't come back cheering for them when they become a legit franchise. i didn't agree with the pick but i'm not abandoning ship b/c of it. they represent HOUSTON and i will follow them with pride.

so go support whatever team your "favorite" player is on now. if that team is winning, so what? you can have all the "i told you so's" too. all i care about is don't come back to support the Houston Texans when they eventually start winning.

LOL - So you are the one appointed to telling people which team they can root for and for what reason.

    Good to know.

Who cares why people root for a team, favorite player, city ties, they like the coach, whatever.

A fan is a fan is a fan......

I was as die hard as they come about the Oilers, still am about the Astros and Rockets, but I left Houston and moved to Austin, and once the Oilers left, I lost a lot of respect for NFL football, and discovered that Sunday's in the fall are great days to hang out with your family instead of camped in front of a TV, or at a stadium.

I will still go to a few of the home games, but until something from the Texan's reaches out and grabs my heart strings, I will follow them on the crapper on Monday mornings to read the stats.

I have been less than thrilled with the way they have drafted, and gone about their business. I am hopeful for Kubiak, he reminds me of Jeff Fisher in a lot of ways, and that is a good thing.

I hope he grabs the city and makes it rock, but I won't be in the city to see that, so probably will never be a die hard pro football fan again.

As for Vince, personally I think he is the best college football player I have ever seen, and think it will translate to the NFL into something special. I am miffed that the Texans did not dare to be great and took the safe pick in Williams, but I understand and respect their stance.

Good luck to them, I just think they missed the boat.

You people that dump your local team, for one player are lame. The sooner you realize that you don't always get what you want, the easier life will be.

A fans sticks with the team through it's ups and downs. If you leave this easy, you were never a fan to begin with, so good-bye.

That is just it Ima, I want to care, but everytime I start to get a twinge of feelings for the team, they do something that I consider idiotic.

And judging by the other posts here, I think a lot of people agree. However, I am willing to concede that it might work out for the best for them, and I hope it does.

    Bobblehead,

Yes, I like Vince, just as I liked Ming before he came out, it is just my philosophy on life, I believe you have to take risks to acheive the brass ring.

Dare to be great, and I think the Texans, to date have not done this.

For most it's not dumping your local team for one player, it's dumping your local team because their front-office sucks.

Houston went through torture for eternity with the Oilers (I know of what I speak...went to my first game in '68 or '69). With what all Houstonians paid for this franchise, they deserve the BEST. Houston made this the 3rd most valuable franchise at $800 m. If they feel like they're getting screwed, they have every right to respond in whatever way they deem fit to, including not buying tickets or supporting.

i'm not telling anyone to do anything. you're already doing it, i'm merely reiterating it. if you say you're not gonna root for this team anymore, then stick to your words.

i don't care who you root for but don't say you're not rooting for this team and suddenly when they're are winning, you become their biggest cheerleader.

and you've never called anyone a bandwagon fan, right?

i understand you. but what if 4 years from now, Reggie Bush is a bust? what if Vince Young is bust (OMG, yes it is possible)? and what if Williams IS the next REggie White? how will you make your apologies then?

hmm, i think i'll make a thread asking this.

Do you remember when you were glad just to have the Texans? Now we say the same guy who brought us a team didn't pick the "best guy" (or my loverboy) so now I'm not a fan anymore? I am not a die-hard Texans fan, I might not watch a single game, but they are still the football team of Houston and I'm not going to be a fan of another.

No, that's not it. The problem is that the fans have put their money into this team in the form of tickets, merchandise, concessions, and so on, only to have the front office go on national TV and say they can't be worried about pleasing the fans.

They gave a big FU to the fans under the pretense of "Oh my God, look at us! We can take risks, too!!"

EDIT: Not to mention they justified their pick by saying "we're set at RB and QB. No you're not. No team is ever set at RB and QB. The Saints didn't mind putting even MORE money into a position they're already set at.
