The "things take time, expansion" argument doesn't hold water. That might have been true years ago, but it's much easier to improve these days. Unfortunatley not only were they not competetive, but they're among the worst expansion teams ever. That's not going to get it done for me.

    Yes Sir!

If you say you are rooting for the Titans now because VY is there than you are what we call not a real fan.

FYI-The Titans are in the same ****ING division!

    Go Texans!

I don't agree with some of the moves but yall are my team no matter what!

I'm amazed at the people here who claim to be "diehard" fans of a team that's been here for 4 years and done nothing to endear itself to the fans.

I'll always be a fan of the Texans. However, there is nothing to make them "my team" except that they're from my city. I haven't gone through a playoff run with them. I have only experienced disappointment and horrible football. I've always still had a soft spot for the Titans but tried to get myself to overcome it because of Bud Adams. I rooted against them in the Super Bowl but was sort of glad to see some of the guys on the team make it.

I'll follow both teams. It's not a bandwagon thing, either. I followed the Astros and Rockets through lower times and seasons. I did it because I had a connection with them and the players. I have no such connection with the Texans even though I really want to have one.

Based on what? We already know the rules were different from the Carolina/Jacksonville teams. The Browns are the closest example... and they're still struggling to put together an identity (probably moreso than Houston).

If you take away last year, the Texans were doing just fine... then, the coaching staff could no longer hide their true defeciencies that have never been addressed since the expansion draft (namely offensive line, and defensive line).

Those things take time to develop... or they take more luck than they've had thus far.

I don't think it's a matter of time as much as a matter of incompetence. That's why Dom Capers is out and Charley Casserly is soon to follow.

We've made a huge number of mistakes.

I would love to wipe the slate clean and get back all of our draft choices and start from scratch.

I'd like to apologize to all I have argued with over the past 3 months, i'm glad this draft is over.

The Houston Texans have made an ass out of me. I even spent a night in the slammer over it. I am humbled, but I still say that Bush should have gone #1 overall. The Saints have deuce and they still couldn't pass on him. I'd still go with the notion that 90% of NFL teams would have taken Bush if he were on the board during their pick, regardless of their need. I've railed the VY fans for threatening to stop supporting the Texans, but I bought a saints hat today so that makes me a hypocrite. I hate the Texans, I hate them so bad right now that I want to move out of the city of Houston. After what i've gone thru this weekend, I say Tuck the Fexans!

As far as predictions, i'm going to stick with what I know, Basketball. Anyone see what Kobe did today? :D

Agent: McNair Could Be Released Or Traded Within Next Day

    Email this Story

    Apr 30, 7:45 PM (ET)

    By TERESA M. WALKER
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Steve McNair's tenure with the Tennessee Titans could be over within the next 24 hours, according to his agent. Team officials don't agree, even though they gave permission for McNair's agent to talk with the Baltimore Ravens.

Agent Bus Cook said Sunday the team was considering releasing McNair or trading him to the Ravens, with something possibly worked out by Monday.

General manager Floyd Reese said a few hours later the Ravens indeed had discussed a trade with Tennessee. But the Ravens' offer was insufficient, and Reese said the talks died right there.

"Steve's a Tennessee Titan. That has not changed," Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said.

Asked about McNair being released within hours, the Titans general manager had a short answer.

"That's not going to happen, no," Reese said.

The Titans drafted Texas quarterback Vince Young with the No. 3 overall pick Saturday as McNair's successor, and they already were looking for a way to reduce or shed the $23.46 million salary cap number the 2003 co-MVP is scheduled to count for in 2006.

Titans coach Jeff Fisher had called trade and release talks "unlikely." Baltimore coach Brian Billick said simply: "Stay tuned."

The NFL Players Association filed a grievance earlier this month when the Titans barred McNair from working out on their property, fearing an injury would make them liable for his entire salary-cap number. They are trying to schedule an expedited hearing before an arbitrator, but Cook said the grievance asked for McNair's release.

Talks on reworking McNair's deal have been nonexistent, but Reese said they now have time to discuss it with the conclusion of the draft.

"Now I think it'll be everybody's duty to sit down and see if we can get something done. I don't know if we can," he said.

The Titans hold all the leverage in this situation unless an arbitrator rules in McNair's favor and grants his release. McNair is under contract for 2006 at a salary of $9 million. That takes away incentive for teams to offer much in a trade.

Tennessee won't need salary cap relief until July when it's time to start signing Young and the other nine draft picks.

"I don't know how much it does to get someone released in August," Reese said. "Maybe it does."

The last time the Titans had a pay-cut showdown with a top player was in 2004 with running back Eddie George, the franchise's all-time leading rusher. He finally asked for, and received, his release a week before training camps opened in July.

Fisher said this situation is difficult considering all McNair has meant to the franchise, leading them to their only Super Bowl appearance and two AFC championship games.

"Steve has been around long enough to understand that you have to separate the business side from everything else. Steve has confidence in his abilities. Steve is not finished playing. He's determined to prove that he can play and play at a very high level," Fisher said.

"That's what he's living on right now, and the hope that this thing gets resolved."

When the Oilers left town - I swore off the NFL. Their records, players and name went with them. Good riddance. Go Texans.

Well, all teams make mistakes... but when you're an EXPANSION team, your mistakes get extremely magnified. Even if the Texans made no mistakes, and were in a position to win right now, they still wouldn't have the depth and experience that a lot of veteran teams have accrued over the years.

I ultimately believe, however, the new "regime" will make the decisions that probably should have been made during the expansion year itself... building the defense from scratch (drafting Peppers over Carr), and building the offensive line.

Based on the fact that only the tampa bay buccaneers have had a worse record in their firts 4 years - and they made hte NFC championship game their 4th year.

And by the way, why would you not count last year? that's the most relevant one to gauge their progress or lack thereof.

It's not even a matter of wins and losses. Even if we lose, I don't care as long as we have young talent.

Other than Andre Johnson and Dunta Robinson, all of our young talent is mediocre. David Carr is a mediocre young player and a microcosm of our problems.

I remember when the Oilers were losing but you could tell the talent was there. I remember when the upstart Cowboys with Aikman, Smith, and Irvin almost beat the veteran Oilers team, when we were a serious contender.

I don't see a lot of good young players who are building blocks for a playoff run in the next 3 years. We've been bad and will continue to be for several years. Our past few drafts have really killed us.

Bud Adams held a press conference with Young in Houston?

    That's awesome. It's like a F U to the Texans.

The Texans will have to be deep in the playoffs before they will interest me.

I would be watching from day one if they had Vince. I would have given Reggie a chance. I don't give a damn if they have an few extra sacks.

This is good for UT as it will remain Houston's team for at least the next few years.

I will only watch Houston sports teams if they are winners. If they aren't, they aren't worthy of my time. I only associate with winners so playoffs is the gauge I use, winners make playoffs, jerkoffs don't. Let the lower class lesser fans support them for now, they will keep my seats warm so that my compadres and myself can enjoy the good times when we buy their seats out from under their stupid asses when the team is actually worth our attendance. Go Whoever's Best!

(The above only applies to REAL sports, nobody gives a **** about women's sports or that sh!tty soccer team that won't last here.)

I love Vince Young so much, not only will I not watch one minute of any down of any Texans game...I will move to Tennesee to be closer to my beloved Vince. I don't have a job in Tennesee so I will beg on street corners, and maybe if I eat every meal in soup kitchens I will have enough to get cheap Titans tickets.

I will renounce all my wordly possessions except for a portable tape player on which I will listen to recordings of every press conference VY ever makes both at UT and as a pro.

I will be forced to wear only clothing rejected by Goodwill and the Salvation Army, but I will wear only Burnt Orange in his honor so that the nobility will shine through the tatters.

    in fairness..who is saying that?

i'm saying i don't HATE the titans anymore. i'm saying i'm going to have a heck of a hard time rooting against the VY led Titans. i'm saying i've been watching VY play since before the Texans ever took the field. i'm not following a winner...except in the sense i believe VY will be a winner. VY hasn't proven anything on the pro level yet. these aren't people jumping to the new super bowl champs. these aren't people all of a sudden becoming braves fans. these are people who are saying they're more interested in what VY does than the local franchise...which has only been here 4 years. i'd say that's pretty different.

listen..i'm impressed to death that some of you have feelings for the texans as strong as feelings for the 'stros or rockets. i grew up with those teams, along with the oilers. i get that. i just don't feel that way about the texans...and it was exposed big time for me in this draft. so label me whatever. call me whatever you want. it is what it is.

I think a good chunk of this town remain firmly in the Oilers..err..Titans corner.

I think there are still a LOT of Titans fans in this town to begin with, drafting VY will probably only help to further endear the Titans to their diehards who never left their corner and will attract more fans in the form of Longhorn nation.
