I've lost count. Do the Rockets still get 3 1st round picks in this draft?

    Thanks...

You did not need to start a new topic to get this answer. A post on any thread would have gotten you the answer. We live to serve.

Although it is true that we currently have only two picks, we should be looking to get more.

For what? Unless MAJOR changes are coming. Remember we still have DMO coming. You want 4 Rookies?

I don't mind three rookies as long as we dump three veterans to make room for them in the rotation.

Methinks Morey is desperately trying to have less, using the Rockets's two picks to move up in the draft.

2 the Mavs pick we got in the Hill for Fisher trade was protected so they didn't have to give it up.

Do we get the rights to the Dallas pick in a different year now?...or it was it only conditional on this years pick?

    Thanks

Top-20 protected through 2017, then becomes UNPROTECTED in 2018.

The Rockets are holding out hope that the Mavs stay out of the top 10 records and are bad enough in 2017-18 to net Houston a lottery pick.

This sort of heavy protection/burn-off has netted teams some unintentionally impressive draft picks. Two trades that come to mind are:

    (1) In the late 90s, Vancouver traded a heavily-protected future pick to Detroit for an aging Otis Thorpe that eventually became the #2 overall pick in 2003 (Darko Milicic, but it just as easily could have been used on Carmelo Anthony).

    (2) In 2004, New York traded a heavily-protected future pick to Phoenix in a deal to acquire Stephon Marbury. That pick was later conveyed to Utah in a salary dump, and the pick turned into the #9 overall pick in 2010 (Gordon Hayward).
