poor battier defenders. you seem quiet. i guess tonight put a big dent in the amount of you guys who fail to understand that he is an awful basketball player.

don't worry though. he'll always have that game last year where he put his hands over kobe's eyes and stuff and held him to a relatively low shooting percentage for one game.

    we'll never forget that. never.

almost 30 pages and you think there's anything left to say on EITHER side? Everything that can be said has been said.

LOL. Battier's March numbers are hideous. He's averaging a ridiculous 34.4 minutes, and is lighting it up at 4.3 PPG, on 10-39 shooting, (3-29 on 3PG). His rebounding rate is an awful 4.1 RPG, while adding few assists or blocks (1.9 APG, 0.7BPG). Even his +/- is HORRIBLE lately at -24 over his past 6 games. If Slow, Unathletic, poor shooting, and no handles = Intangibles, then he's got them well covered.

yeah i would think there would be more to say after tonight, considering the game was against kobe bryant, the player whose one off-game of shooting inspired a 30 page dissertation of hooey in the ny times and made a legend out of the biggest scrub in nba history to ever be allowed to play 30+ minutes/game.

what you meant to say was "do you think there any way we could ever possibly defend him again now that kobe baby-sealed him?"

I am more pissed about missing out on Brandon Roy. We would have had that closer that this team needs, and one player we could actually build this team around.

I could've sworn I read here several times immediately following that draft that we didn't get Roy because we weren't willing to give up Luther Head to Minny. This was from Doc or Pops or some other legit source. What a tragedy.

It's not over yet fellas.....Everyone is always defending battier by bringing up the fact that jvg and ra played him so much and the fact that dm loves him so much. My question is:

How many championship teams have either of them been apart of again(as coaches or gm's)?

How long has dm been a gm again? He doesn't know everything........

Agree. JVG also liked to start Chuck Hayes over Luis Scola...choosing to start a one dimensional defensive player over a much better and more versatile player. The Rockets improved when JVG got his head out of his @SS and put Scola in the starting lineup.

Scola's rookie season in the NBA was last year. He never played for JVG.

Scola arrived afterJVG left. You're referring to Rick "Slow-mo" Addledman

No wonder I never saw Scola play during JVG's tenure. This explains it all. Thank you.

If you have more to say, then go ahead, but i'm sure I can find it somewhere in here already. As for tonight, Kobe played 40 mins, Ron played 40 mins, shane played 28. It would be perfectly logical for me to have pointed that out earlier to try and defend Battier, but what would that accomplish? The fans against battier will say the same things they've said and we're going to counter with the same. I have no problem admitting I was wrong if Shane turns out be truly be washed up by season's end, but at this point it's too early for either side to say they were right and most importantly, it would be pointless since we're still WINNING for the most part.

oh, you must have the wrong idea. i think i can speak for all the people who understand that shane battier is a marginal nba player at best, when i say we don't think battier is "washed up". quite the contrary! i (we) think he's in the prime of his career right now. this is as good as he ever was. he's not declining, he has simply always sucked. we don't need re-evaluation at season's end.

great point about the minutes played. silly adelman just didn't play shane enough minutes tonight!

Hmm... You know, sometimes I really want to be one of those ignorant "fans" who fall in love with the high-flying, pot-smoking pea-sized-brain athletes and absolutely refuses to take a deeper look into the game itself. I really want to be one of those people that can just dangle out hate daggers without using any logic and intelligence. Maybe I'm asking for too much. I guess hard work, positive influence, IQ and defense are overrated after all.

I like Shane. I am a Shane guy, but lately, he's been playing like crap.

His defense is crap. His offense is crap. He won't even take an open shot. He just passes it back to Yao in the post. His injury was months ago, and he should be ok.

Kobe is good, and he will do it to lots of folks, but it's been happening too much to Shane latlely.

Durvasa, that's not his job. His job is to be a productive player. As many times as kobe turned his head and started digging the ball, you would think battier would cut to the rim. This isn't about just tonight or the other night. People want to know why the lakers are always in ring mode every decade? They got ariza for mo evans and brian cook. They traded shaq a yr early vs a yr late. They traded divac for a high schooler. They kept their 21 yr old project despite the pressure from the mvp. Do u ever in ur wildest dreams see La making the battier trade? They are just smarter than the rox.
