They should have never gone public with it. Plain stupidity on FO part. Now teams are gonna make game plans against it in their favor. Also this would not attract free agents as well.
If Adelman actually stuck to the 24-minute cap, then people would figure that out eventually. Its kind of hard to disguise that.
If nothing else the fans and media would ask why isn't Yao playing more after every game in which he was only at 24 minutes or less.
Right. Local media would ask questions. Coach would be forced to say something and not just do the shrug and back away while whistling to himself. All that would do is piss off fans, and of course teams would catch on, real fast. Might as well be open with whole thing.
Who cares what we think! Management obviously doesn't! DO you think they have to have our permission before they play or trade for a certain player?
Well, I imagine they told us what the limit is so they don't have to field questions every single game about the topic, which they would have to do if it was kept a "secret". Not much point in that, as after a few games you could look at Yao's minutes played per game and see they were only 24. You just wouldn't know why. So what was the benefit of not announcing it again?
Call me crazy, but I think when he plays is more important than how many he plays. If leebigez were the coach, yao would play last 4mins of the 1st and 1st 4mins of the 2nd. Then he would play the last 3mins of the 2nd qt and 1st 3mins of the 3rd qt. Then he would play last 4mins of 3rd qt and the last 6 of the game. Why would i do such a thing? The in between the qt breaks and end of qt importance. The 1st qt, teams have gotten lathered up and a flow, yao comes in and plays 4mins. End of qt, break, comes back out and plays 4mins in the 2nd qt. The next phase is similar. He got a sweat going, sat down, and now he plays the last 3mins of the 1st half. Now we're at half time and the 15min break. Come back out and plays 3 more early 3rd qt mins. We're at 14 mins. He comes back in and plays the last 4mins of the 3rd qt. So he has played 7 of the 12 of the 3rd and now he sits until the high leverage 6minute mark. He gets rest at the end of the 3rd and the first 6min and now he's ready to help close the game out on offense and defense.
Yao slows the whole game, lol in a good way, for our team. He converts on his attempts so well that it doesn't matter if our offense is slow when he is in the game. He draws double teams and usually makes good albeit slow decisions. He gets our PF's so many offensive and rebounding opportunities. I would like to see a Miller, Yao 5 minutes, every game. See how many midrange jumpers Bmill gets, lol. This would of course be predicated on our young bigs being able to handle time on the floor alone.
These are professional athletes, Yao is paid 17 million dollars and he is our best player...you're the coach, you wouldn't play your best player in a game that meant something? I am assuming the game you speak of was of some importance, against a good team, playoffs, close game, etc.
Kind of hard to miss when Reggie is asking "Is the limit over and done with already? In the first game of the season?" Now there's an announcement that the Rox will re-evaluate Yao's playing time in December.
I am only concerned about B2Bs , 24 minutes is not bad at all, it' s all about back to back!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not concerned about the 24 min. cap. I'm concerned about the allotment of those minutes. It is obvious looking at the Laker game and even the GSW game (where Yao didn't play) that we need Yao in the 4th quarter (preseason games illustrated this too). He should play the last 8-10 minutes of a game. That is where the Rockets are losing the games. They can't make a stop, they can't get a rebound, they can't reliably score in the post (Scola is way up and way down from 1 sec. to the other). Our guys have to work way too hard for their shots, too much dribbling and looking lost and this is just not going to work unless Yao can play in this fashion: In games where Yao plays--make sure that he is in the last 8-10 mins of the game And in the second game of b2bs, put Yao's azz in the game for the last 8 mins. It is crazy but it's better than the product that we have on the court right now.
You are right, he is a franchise player and 7'5" and Ricky ran him to death for 51 minutes. that is a ton of minutes for a guard, and this is Yao Ming. As to the importance of the game, it was a regular season game, in December. How important is that? It was also on the back half of a back to back. The previous night he didn't do much work though, only played almost 43 minutes battling DWIGHT HOWARD and ending up with 17 rebounds. So after that I am sure he was up for 51 minutes the very next night after a three hour flight. Way to manage your players Ricky, I am sure Pop does that all the time with Duncan.
