Just help him to build some muscles and employ JVG to teach him defence, he will be AD. Buy him some muscles growing milk powder

I'm adding that he may not be physically solid enough to build a cornerstone with. I mean, if you don't have any brown sugar or butter- but you got this guy and peanuts- you still got brittle. They DEFINITELY need to bring a big strong body or two to bang and get rebounds if you're going to highlight this guy as your scorer.

Nah, he can still increase his value thus becoming an opportunity to save money. They will let him shoot.

I think they have Cousins slated as tank commander. It’s perfect, feel good story but a negative on the floor.

Just listened to Bill Simmons latest. He said it was pretty obvious Houston is fixing to gut itself and be bad for a long time.
Y’all clowns that continue to argue that I’m stupid or this is some sort of odd take are petulant children arguing against reality. I will bet anyone any amount of money Christian Wood doesn’t ever play on a rockets team that’s over 500 at the end of the year.
If that’s the case then there is zero point in retaining his services if he turns himself into a positive asset.
As to the guy who said “we can’t tank we don’t have our picks”- that is wrong. We have a swap out in 21 but it’s top 4 protected. We have all our picks in 22 and 23 and then lightly protected in 24, 25, 26. you have every incentive to become miserably bad inn21, 22 and 23

Truth. I might have been on board with competing this season if Stone had pulled in a foundational piece in the harden deal (or if he flips oladipo for a couple pieces). Since he didn't/until he does there is no reason to think of any player on this team as anything more than an asset to be used toward building a contender.

Something like this frees up the rockets to begin to build through the draft rather than embrace the tank to scoop a franchise player and return to contention. Wood, Tate, okpala, ochiuwa and green are a nice foundation to add some frps to.

I can think of zero reasons as to why you would do this as presented. If we got two firsts out of it, I might listen. Still, someone else has our draft picks and unless we're the absolute worst team in the league we might as well win as much as possible. Getting into the top 4 takes some luck otherwise. Why suck if you don't have to? Why suck if there's little to no incentive? Building winning culture does matter if you ever want to not be a loser franchise. Having a coach that coaches to win is really important. Playing to lose hurts his long term potential impact. Tanking is fine if you have all your picks, but we don't have them. We're not trying to make OKC the best team in the league. They have all our picks and pick exchanges for a long while. It's winning time and your methods in this thread make no sense at all.

The Astros rebuild vs. where the Rockets are is a poor comp imo.

The truth is NBA rebuilds don't take near as long as they do in the MLB. In the MLB, you need several foundational pieces in separate domains (hitting and pitching) and hope all their windows line up. The Astros got there with great management, planning and luck.

In the NBA, all it takes is one foundational player that is dominate on offense and capable on defense and you are in business. Not easy to find that piece for sure, but its clear that the players run the league. All it takes is one to say "I want to win on my own terms" (KD, LeBron come to mind), who has the supporting cast to make it happen? Or you draft that player. Either way, you want the elite role players in place to make it superstar plug-in-play.

The Rockets can turn this around quickly, but you have to hold the complementary, near or borderline all stars to have it align. Otherwise, stripping it down and hoping on the draft turns you into Phoenix (who is only just now coming out of a decade long period of irrelevance)

If we had not given away all our picks for Westbrick then maybe. As it stands there is no point

Better question how long before we can extend Wood?

I don't think you get it. Rockets are full process now.

For management, the ideal Rockets roster is a few max salary vets without a lot of years to get to the minimum and a bunch of cheap expirings, and rookie deals.

There aren't fans! It's too bad they swap this year because you'd see a historical tank otherwise

That’s not true. They have nothing of ours in 22 and 23, 25 is a swap top 10 protected and 24 and 26 don’t convey if you win the lotto. there is zero upside to this team in 21 unless you think the play in tournament is upside. Might as well maximize your chance of getting
Lucky this year and be horrible in 22 and 23. The rockets shouldn’t focus on anything not geared toward winning games in 24 that’s when you want to try to win. Anything before that is counterproductive. This tank needs to last for 3 years (21-23). That’s how long the Astros tank lasts. That’s how long we have before OKC controls our draft for the. Edit 3 years absent horrible sucktitude.

    lol we're not trading him.

He's gonna be a future all-star (maybe might even happen this season).

My idea turns a player that isn't in the Rockets plans (and who doesn't want to be here anyway) into 3 players who are are young and talented enough to be in the rotation of a contending team when the Rockets might actually have a chance to contend. What's your idea to get the Rockets back to relevance? A "winning culture" with g league talent what you're banking on?

Wood is on a 3year contract that is quite cost effective. He's also playing like he may develop into an allstar. There's no way they trade him to be a worse team, he's instead a centerpiece to rebuild around.

Wood will stay about 8 years before having an issue with ownership thinking he faked a leg injury over contract disputes. Tillman will sell the team to another who in their first few years will win back-to-back titles solidifying Wood as one of the best big man in the game.

He'll resign until his 16th year when he gets traded to Toronto for a bag of chips (because Wood always wanted to play there).

I also see him winning one MVP and be part of the Dream Team Olympics (taking gold)

You don't tell any competitive person, hey come join us.. we're in last place. That includes rookies. No winner likes losing and if you bring a winner (that you want) into a losing situation and tell him to lose for 3 more years... that guy will ****ing hate you and your organization. Also, they won't develop into the winner you need them to be eventually.

Winning is a culture. You can lose for one year, but repeated years? No.

We try to win this year. That should be the plan. ...If at the trade deadline, something great comes along that makes us worse right now but better in the future (like PJ Tucker to a win now team for a pick), sure do it. But losing on purpose now does nothing guaranteed. In fact, it puts you in a position to be a laughing stock. [think about some Warriors fan saying it: "Hey Rockets, you dip *****! You tanked, ended up 2nd worst and the lottery went to X,Y,Z and not you! So you lost for no reason! Hahahahahah!]

Giving up now is loser mentality and that will seep into the very fabric of what Houston is. Worst part is.. we don't even have this year's pick guaranteed unless we're the worst team in the league. We just beat the Spurs with a short bench. We don't have "worst in the league" material on our roster. We have Silas-Develop-Us type assets on our roster that might just slip into the playoffs. So we don't have a guarantee to get in the top 4 of the draft. Only guarantee is by being the worst. The top 3 spots are a lottery.

Achiuwa might be alright, but the other three are crap. Keeping Dipo makes sense unless it's for picks or someone with actual potential. All you've done is make us a little taller and into a group of losers that won't even benefit from being terrible.
