Since the year before Yao. Was looking for a team to root for (NJ guy, never liked the knicks or nets), watched one of their games, and boom just kept rooting!
I was in The Summit for Game 6 of the 1986 Finals http://www.nba.com/video/channels/nba_tv/2011/07/20/hardwood_1986_hou_bos_gm6_recap.nba
Been religiously following the team since 1993. Never took a season off. 2 decades of suffering and i'm still here. Red Nation till i die!
Same here. 1992-93 season was the first one where I really followed them. That Game 7 OT loss to Seattle still haunts me to this day. Especially since they gave away home court advantage at the end of the season. As far as playoff games I was at, there was Game 7 against Phoenix in 1994(where they completed the comeback from Choke City), Game 4 against Utah in 1995(Clyde and Dream went for 41 and 40 respectively), and Game 3 against Utah in 1997(Eddie Johnson went off that night and had everyone chanting his name all the way to the parking garage).
Grew up in Hawaii, no pro team so I adopted my father's love for the MJ's Bulls (and every other Chicago team at that fact). Lost touch with basketball when I joined the Navy but as soon as I got shore duty I picked it back up but this time I chose my own team. I liked Yao Ming (I'm Asian so go figure) and quickly fell in love with the team as a whole. After Ming's departure, I remained true and here I am. P.S. The Rockets were actually a contributor to my decision to moving out to Htown alongside other reasoning's of wifey's family and cheaper cost of living
Add me to this group, at the tender age of six I started watching on and off during the 92-93 season, but i was fully on board by playoff time. I can't for the life of me remember why I started, my dad was a football guy, he didn't care about hoops. Didn't care about the league, as far as i was concerned there were only 2 teams in the NBA, the rockets and their opponent.
Used to play at halftime shows in pips. Born, bred and raised in Hou, college at UH, y no 'while I was in the womb' selection!
Uh, I can think of a good reason why you and many others started watching the Rockets despite being football fans first. Remember what happened in January 1993 with the local NFL team?
Right there with you... Since 72' and I feel you on the old part... Ahhh the good ole ABA days... T_Man
as long as I can remember... the earliest season i can think of was Steve Francis' rookie year. I grew up in a room filled with Rockets posters and and i even had the Cartoon logo bed spread!
I'm from New Orleans, and as a kid we didn't have a basketball team. I used to play NBA Live, and one year the Rockets were one of the default teams when the team select screen would come up. I think it was NBA Live '95. Anyway, I always played with the Rockets. Then my family and I moved to Houston a couple years later by chance. So of course I remained a fan.
I was a Sonics fan and a T-Mac fan. I made the decision that I could be waiting forever for another Sonics team so I decided to say goodbye and follow T-Mac and the Rockets. Glad I did!
Early 90's. A Houston native, and I was just getting old enough to understand what was going on, and I had an elementary school teacher who was a fanatic- that was around the time Olajuwon and ownership were in a contract dispute, and she was concerned that we would lose him. From that point on I was glued. I was lucky that the Rockets won those titles in my formative sports years, it was great to be a kid then.
Wow... this thread is 12 years old. And I just now posted in it. It was my destiny to post in this thread. 12 years ago when this thread was created, I had no idea I would be posting in it today. Through everything that has happened in my life over the past 12 years, good and bad, this thread has been floating in cyber space just waiting. And now I posted in it. It is a special day.
92-93 I became a die hard fan...next 2 years after were the t***...pretty much every year since has been the pancake butt lol
