I think I keep my cars longer than vast majority of the people in this country, I have a 06 Camry and a 16 Pilot which was a 97 Camry that sold a few months ago for 2k. I plan on keeping my Camry for at least seven or eight more years. How long do you guys keep your cars? I want to get the most out of my cars.
i have a 2010 Corolla I bought Dec 2009 brand new with less than 50 miles on it, have almost 125k on it, I want it to last me at least 10 years total, so 2020 the earliest. I just replaced the alternator and replace the tires twice already, has been stable for me so far. Previous cars were used, hand me downs. 1993 Camry lasted the longest at 6 years from 2000-06, had an accident, and still was able to sell it with 223k on it.
1993 Subaru Legacy, had it for 19 years before I sold it. 2001 Honda Accord, had it for 14 years before I sold it. 2004 Triumph Speed Four, bought in 2005, still have it. 2005 Infiniti G35, bought in 2009, still have it. 2012 Honda Accord, bought in 2012, still have it. Can't remember the others.
I kept my college car (99 Honda Accord, bought it with 89k miles) for 8 years, it had 235k miles last time I drove it. I bought myself a newer used car this year which I intend to keep for hopefully 10 years at least.
Recenty sold a 2000 (bought it new) with over 400,000 miles. It's nice going several years without a car note. I put $2,000 down for a couple of Tesla Model 3s. If we actually purchase one, I'll put Elon Musk's "1 million mile drive train" notion to the test
First car was a POS Edition 2001 PT Cruiser I got in 2005. Drove it until it literally wouldn't move anymore, which for that pile of crap was like 150k miles. Sold it for parts in 2010-11. Second car was a used 2009 Focus SES coupe. Drove it until November 2014, was still running fine but it was just so damn small. At 6'4 I needed something bigger. Third and current is a new 2015 Colorado. I will have it paid off in Nov 2018 and at that point the Mrs will buy a crossover/small SUV. I'd hope to at least keep this truck until her SUV is paid off. So the very earliest I'd sell it would be late 2023. 9 years. Hopefully though I can keep it for longer.
08 Mazda 3 until June of this year when a guy decided to stop at a Green light and my brakes caused me to skid and rear end him. Bought a used Audi a4. Will pay off in 35 more months. I miss the no car payment days lol.
I have a 2008 Honda Fit that I bought in January of 2008. Has around 113K miles on it. So, 8.5 years, going on 9. I'll likely keep it at least one more year. We have one child, and another on the way, so I'm a little nervous putting two kids back there, especially if I don't switch the older one to forward facing (he'll be about 2.5 when the new baby comes). I was thinking of buying a small truck (Colorado, Ridgeline, etc) but with a new baby coming, I'll definitely push it back. My wife has a 2015 Subaru Outback that we bought in October of 2014. Our plan is to keep that for at least 10 years. I hate car notes. So once the outback is done, I don't want to jump right back into one if I can help it. The Outback has about 1.5 years left, unless i put one of my bonuses towards getting rid of the note.
Most definitely, the more years you keep the car, the cheaper your car cost per year, and lease is for suckers lol.
Generally about 10 years but I currently drive an '05 Honda Accord with 225k miles on it (purchased in '06 with 16k miles). I think I am going to try to drive it a couple of more years.
