I'd wager I'd last longer than average...which might not be long, but would be longer than this guy. I have a relative low fear drive (am I saying that right...never been a guy to get really scared of anything), a relatively high pain tolerance, and have historically been fairly ballsy when doing things that are dangerous, but have relatively low likelihoods of death. All that said, while longer than average, I'm sure average isn't that long and I'd freak out too, at some point.
So the water goes into your nose and makes you feel like you are drowning, and basically you can't breathe, right? What about your mouth? Can you try to breathe through your mouth? I though the hole point of waterboarding is it doesn't physically hurt you and there isn't danger, but if you can't breathe you could suffocate I guess.
I don't know much about it but from the conversation in the video a big part of it is being tilted down and the way the CO2 settles in your lung, etc. That plus you panicking accelerates how fast your oxygen gets burned up versus just holding your breath normally. Plus, both your nose and mouth are covered in the wet cloth so you can't really breathe through either.
Considering I would confess just about anything to avoid being on the Tower of Terror again, I am sure I could not handle something really intense like waterboarding.
I have a friend that was waterboarded to teach him how to resist torture during his time in the Air Force. He says that it's a lot scarier than it looks.
Here's another video I found. Not to get political about it but this guy is a supposed conservative and went into wanting to prove it wasn't torture. He came out declaring it was 'absolutely torture'. I'm of the mindset that it doesn't seem to be but now I'm wondering if I'd change my mind. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qUkj9pjx3H0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qUkj9pjx3H0&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&hl=en&feature=player_embedded&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
well.. it's been said that the victim will say anything to get out of it... including false info. not me, i have no problems with it as long as they're not an american citizen (criminal or not because the constitution forbids cruel and unusual punishments) and that they're verified enemies of the state...with hard proof they did something.
Granted I've never been waterboarded before (because I'm not a bad person), I think I could last at least 5-10 minutes. I ain't no pu$$y like Mancow. By the way what kind of name is Mancow? Seems kind of lame to me. Someone who could only withstand under 10 seconds of waterboarding. I look at it as fun. Sort of like going to Splash Town. But for free.
I think I heard on the radio today that Mancow is his real middle name; as for what kind of name it is, I have no earthly idea. Speaking of no earthly idea, what makes you think you could last that long? If you read/listen to what they say your brain will go to a place it has never been before and over which you have very little say. I wonder what the world record for withstanding waterboarding it? I heard somewhere that it has been around since The Spanish Inquisition; can anyone verify that?
