Its simple.. Yao will stay connected to the rockets organization as a player and after his retirement. To let him possibly sign up for vet min type money for any other team would be a  idiotic  choice for the Rockets organization. It would split any future investment and Yao value of the Rockets organization with the other team he would sign onto.

Think if he signed on with Miami or LA next year. The value from the Chinese Yao market to the Rockets would be split immediately. Yao being only connected to the rockets organization will provide Chinese fans increased loyalty too the rockets organization.

Hes well worth signing an extension for if he chooses not to retire. Every player makes extra money on the rockets they would not on other teams, because of Yao. Every player makes 100k-millions more because the deals they get in the Chinese market. Therefore; this allows the Rockets to be more attractive and to actually get players for a lesser or equal amount than most other teams can do.

The team will and should no longer build around him, and the team will not spend serious money on him. Look its better for the team and better investment to pay Yao injured than pay someone like Jefferies if Yao doesn't retire, and when he retires pay him to promote The Rockets in China. Then Les makes the team worth 100+ more million dollars.

    Points made by:
Rockets Value when Les Bought in 1993 85 mil

    Rockets value in 2000 206 milhttp://www.usatoday.com/sports/nba/fs11.htm

    Rockets value 2009 470 Mil http://www.nba.com/2009/news/12/09/team.values.ap/index.html

    Proving Point:
Chuck Hayes made 5 million extra $ because of Yao and 1 Chinese shoe deal

You trying to justify Yao's broken down contract which also keeping the team down to his past achivements. Back then he was worth every dollar but now there is no excuse on court sense for Les to continue to keep him around. Unfortunatley Les's business interests will allways go hand in hand with Yao.

Pretty much. If yao had stayed in the cba, what his his wealth be? What about his family. I mean living in china and being taken care of is cool, but averaging 15mill for not playing is better.

You are a severely disgusting Rockets fan.

What Yao got in Houston he would have gotten in any other team in the league, his talents and his work ethic made him earn that, no matter where he would have ended up he would have been treated as the gentleman he is. Don't try to paint the Rockets as if they were saviours who rescued him out of obscurity.

When they drafted him they knew the compromises he had to make to his country, not only for personal motivation but by demand of his nation.

I really hate to come up with harsh judgements but I think there's something macabre about you man.

    /end of rant.
