Lol. Everyone should relax, it's just a summer of really focusing on it. Parsons has time we're not contending for anything this year anyway.
It's actually true. I checked the last 6 seasons. There appears to be only one or two non-center white guys below 60% for a season. So, Floyd Mayweather should just stay out of this thread.
Well when he went to the line in the 4th quarter against OKC, he made his second free throw after missing the first and that extra point won us the game
It took Chuck Wagon several years to improve his free throws. I believe that he got worse before he got better
How long has Hayes been a starter? not even a real half a season. some people just dont shoot ft's well
He wasn't a terrible FT shooter in college though. Wasn't as good as he should be but wasn't embarrassingly bad for a 6'9" forward. College FTs are no different from NBA ones so this should be a reparable problem.
It's beyond sad really, he's a professional with nothing else to do besides practice ft shooting. He's played his whole life, he should be at least above 60%. Even middle school kids shoot better than 30%.
He obviously has some sort of mechanical or psychological issue. It's not like he's a natural shooter. It doesn't come easy for everyone. It is weird that he is shooting pretty well from 3point land though. But that shot is kinda flat and ugly. I just hope he can get to 70% at some point.
His mechanics are off for the free throw shot, he is making it a lot more complicated than it needs to be. I don't know if they still do but the Mavs used to have just a free throw shooting coach, I think that would be a good thing for the Rockets to do.
How do you know he isn't already doing that? I suspect he is working hard on improving his free throw shooting.
That's why I think they need a shooting coach or a better shooting coach. You can practice all day long and if you have the wrong mechanics it really makes it a lot harder than it needs to be to improve.
It looks like he was a pretty bad FT shooter in college too. 2007-2008: 63% 2008-2009: 56% 2009-2010: 66% 2010-2011: 56% In comparison, his 3-pt percentages in college weren't bad. 2007-2008: 37% 2008-2009: 36% 2009-2010: 30% 2010-2011: 32% I don't know what's going on that's making it so difficult for him to hit his free throws, but he needs to get his act together and work on that facet of his game. Right now he is getting to the basket a lot and a lot of his effectiveness is lost when teams can take advantage of fouling him.
From what I can see he's using too much arm wich causes his elbow to flare out on misses and on FT's. That explains the flat shot from long range and inconsistancy. One of the best shooting form drills I've used are one handed FT's. It works really well with players with large hands. CCR's "Pickups" are really good too for getting the legs involved on longer range shots.
I agree one of the main things is that he is trying to put all of that 3 point motion in a 15foot shot. If he would just shorten the range of motion that would make it easier and less room for error. That's what I don't understand, why isn't there a coach working with him him showing him a better method to shoot. It's not like his form is horrible they just need to tweek it a little, at the very least he should be able to shoot in the mid 60's this year. They have to do a complete reconstruction of his shot like Chuck Hayes.
Well it's a combination of things. Most of the coaching staff are experts in X's and O's not shooting form. While you're right that he does'nt have horrible form the issue is tweaking/changing the mechanics of a jump shot that he's been shooting that way for years. Muscle memory works both ways, he literally has to shoot hundreds of times to "re-program" his muscles so they won't revert back to the old from. This is the number one thing for young players, get your form right at a young age. Having bad mechanics work for some player but when they go into a shooting slump it's hard to figure out the issue to remedy it.
Although Parsons has Game, his FG, 3P, and FT% Needs to Improve Dramatically. He is not as Aggressive to the Rim as he should be. 22 total free throw attempts for a Starter in 23 games is Not Acceptable. It appears that his Intangibles along with Strong D are the main reasons he is playing Significant Minutes like Batman did.
What's with all the excuses, I don't get it. There's no excuse for not shooting at least 60-70%, it's all about routine and concentration. My guess is it's in his mechanics and he shoots just a bit different every time + he's a p***y. Yeah I said it, his reluctance to shoot in games is what almost got us killed against OKC and his form is terrible. When he misses a shot, boy it's ugly. If Parsons cannot change that, we better draft ourselves a SF.
