OK let me edit my post. The X1 interface is better than Directv. Directv has better HD IMO.. All the channels from Directv are 1080P while Comcast some are 1080P 720P and just digital. in two years I will switch back to directv but keep the internet.
Can you get the X1 without the Triple Play? A year or so ago, I tried to trade my DVR in for an X1, but they said I couldn't because I didn't have a phone line with them.
No provider offers 1080P television. Unless you're talking about on-demand content. Directv and Comcast do offer 1080p on-demand content. 1080i is the standard. What separates DirecTV from the rest is that their bitrate for HD is incredibly high. Something like 12-14mbps. Fios is the best HD at around 16-20mbps. Comcast is 10-12, and Uverse is the worst at a measly 5.6mbps
Good correction... I like how all the channels are u uniform with directv and fit your TV the same.. X1 some of the channels don't fill out the entire screen.
Agreed. Plus DirecTV doesn't have separate channels for HD. Why didn't you get DirecTV with Comcast internet? That's the setup I used to have.
I actually consider that a good thing. When watching something that wasn't filmed or remastered in HD, I rather have the two black pillars on the sides instead of the picture being stretched to fit the screen. I've changed my settings to work that way on my DirecTV boxes. Guess it's just a personal preference thing.
Only good thing about Comcast is fast speeds besides that it sucks especially customer service. Been with them for over a year an in this time frame I have them come out over 6 times. I have exchanged the modem a few times, dvd boxes a few time, had them rewire the outside wires because the tech that came out the first time did a ****ty job. Lately I been watching tv an a blue screen pop up saying im not authorized to watch tv an to call an 1800 number. Gotta call them to resend the signal. Bunch of headaches an not worth it. Also they are always booked an cant come out till a week later and scare you with a $70 charge if its something with inside the house connection or wiring.... If you can avoid Comcast by all means.
That may be a problem with the settings on your box and or TV. Even though the channels are not all truly 1080p, the settings on the x1 box can be adjusted so that the tv "thinks" they're all 1080p. At the very least, the non-HD channels can fill out your entire screen if you want.
I had Comcast internet for 5 years while in grad school. Generally I found it to be a better company than its reputation. Good speed, good reliability, good price. Customer service was fine the first few times I needed them and cancelling took me less than 10 minutes. One black mark to end the relationship, though... when I cancelled and moved (to a TWC exclusive area) I should have taken the rented modem back to their store in person, because their mail-in service was a nightmare. I arranged weeks in advance for them to send a return package to my old address, and never got it. I called back to request it at the new address, 3 weeks later and nothing. They even used the updated address to send me "you will continue to be charged for the modem!" harassment mail without sending the means to return it. 6 or 7 weeks after the move I finally got them to actually send it and waive the extra fees. But way too much trouble.
that's the set up I had for the past two years but once all of my referrals and discounts started to fall off I decided to go back to Comcast for two years.. I will definitely go back though.
Terrible. - All calls get oursourced to phillipines where they talk to you from a script and resort to having a technician come out after 2 steps of troubleshooting. - Service gets interrupted all the time - Billing is never right, every month your calling in to correct your bill - Can't trust what one agent tells you because the next time you call another agent tells you the opposite. - They charged me a rental fee for my own modem than sent it to collections once I cancelled, tried to say I owed them $200 for a modem.
Comcast gave us an extra year of the promotional price for our internet over the original 2, that was pretty cool.
Comcast is great as long as you don't have any problems. We had Comcast for 5 years, up until last March when we moved. They were scheduled to come hook everything up 2 days after we moved in, and my fiancée took the day off from work. Of course they never showed, despite several calls checking up on their status and being told by customer service that they were still coming up to 7:30 PM even though they were supposed to show between noon and 4 PM... The last call to them after 7:30 PM had the installer blaming it on us because he supposedly tried to call and couldn't reach us... They gave us the number he had been trying to use, and it was the Comcast number he was supposed to be coming to activate... Genius. Even if some mistake had been made where that was the only contact number he had, my fiancée made numerous calls to their customer service after they passed their "arrival window" and they definitely had her cell number at that point, and could have passed it on to the installers. To put the final touch on loosing our business, they said they couldn't reschedule for 3 more weeks, even though they were the ones who didn't show up...
Question...we're about to move and upgrade to the X1 system. On the digital preferred channel guide, it doesn't have 639 checked. That's not right, right?
CSN should be part of the standard packages... but I'm not sure what any of the "names" of the packages mean anymore. I do know that the packages are independent from upgrading to X1... meaning whatever you have now will be what you'll have when you go to the X1 system.
My internet was down for an hour or two on Friday. When it came back on my X1 remotes seemed less laggy. Was it some upgrade?
