When I was a kid, I emulated Larry Bird, John Stockton and Magic Johnson. Now, though, I'm just a straight-up bomber. After all -- the further out I shoot, the less I have to run.
Yeah after i started watchin the rockets, i could lead a team to 10 points but never past that in a game that went to 11. Like a chicken I choke.
"I pound it like Paultz." WTG Rimrocker.... I always ask WWTWD (What Would The Whopper Do?) on the court!
I play PG but in a MUCH more efficient manner than Francis.....but my defense can be as bad as his. DD
The only way I'm imitating Olajuwon is in my decline. I look like Patrick Ewing lumbering up and down the court these days. I just now got to where I can dunk again, but I always go back to the old "Dream Shake." I can still ball when people get me the ball in the post, but I've gotten tired of pickup ball where I play with strangers in Lawrenceville (where my paper is) and they don't feed the post, ala Francis! I'm 6-fricking-5, tallest sonuvabitch on the court who can DUNK, give me the damned ball! I have zero handle and while I can shoot from outside (I was a good 3-point shooter in h/s, but I saw little need to go outside when I could score easier buckets down low), I prefer not to be on the perimeter where little b*stard guards can strip the ball from me and run me into picks. When I copied Olajuwon's moves (I have over five years of OLD!!!!! Rox games on VHS in my house that I'm going to put together in a DVD highlight deal for post play), I studied a ton of film and would slow things down so I could figure out every nuance of his every movement from the position of his feet, to the direction he would turn his shoulders in, etc. My dad, a great basketball player, already didn't like to play with my height (he's 5-11, I'm 6-5 1/2), but when I made him look stupid with all those moves ripped from Dream, he just ceased our one-on-one games. I love what he did with play in the post, but my favorite thing about Dream was how stupid he made people look guarding him. That was what impressed me the most about him as a teen.
I know. Tell me about it. That's why I usually only play with people I know. Geez, I wish I had some kind of handle, but usually it goes off my foot or something stupid like that.
No one feeds the post in pick up games. In pick up games you just snow bird the hell out of the other team but tournament play is diffrent. I like playing in tournaments though..because I love spliting zones and kicking it out to a wide open man. I know I came in here off topic so I'll just let myself out now.
I have my own version of the Dreamshake that I use from time to time. Other than that I'm the hustle man on the court, I want every rebound, loose ball, steal, set picks etc...
i'm a pretty good passer. but most of that is in the open court... my passing out of the half court offense is so so. however... i definitely feel you... back when i had better knees i relished contact and would post up a lot. nowdays i'm more of a shooter. but it still bothers me when i see big guys fight for position and then are frustrated because they don't get the ball. a lot of big guys don't even post up anymore because they know they won't be getting it. anyway... if you were on my team and are as good as you say i'd be throwing it to you every time. i guess this is why i'm frustrated when yao doesn't get the ball.
wait... forgot to mention it's never too late to develop one. i had to develop one when i became not the biggest dude and got bad knees which stops me from banging down low. i mean... i only have a strong move to my right... kind of like amare (but of course i imagine TMac when i do it LOL)... but as long as you have a mix up it would be better. i'm tall enough to shoot over the average guy and then i have the move if they play too close. one of these days i'll learn a consistent lefty dribble/finish, and that will be a new dimension.
He works at Gallery Furniture. Allen Leavell- "You want to buy this sofa?" Me- "Yeah, because it looks just like the one I use to sit on and watch you play"
I tried to shoot 3 pointers from beyond the key like Matt Bullard, now I stay in the corners and drain them there like Bruce Bowen.
