These two shows are probably similar because I think the creators of HIMYM worked on Friends as well.
I can't give a fair opinion because I didn't watch the first few seasons of HIMYM, and as we all know, after the first few seasons, sitcoms go really downhill.

i never got why shows use laugh tracks in general. I like both to be honest. What I like about HIMYM is that barney is purposely waaaay over the top that all you can do is laugh and enjoy the silly suit Pjs. alyson got hot over the years. I never thought she was attractive before HIMYM.
HIMYM's comedy is wittier than Friend and I probably enjoy watching that over Friends. With that said, I'm sure the syndicated episodes of Friends will probably out last HIMYM in the long run.
