It all begins on the defensive line. If you can't pressure enough from the defensive, no CB out there can lock a guy up all the time.
Do you really think 11 players are going to be selected ahead of him? We might have the 12th worse record now, but I expect us to go 8-8, possibly 9-7 to end the season. Raiders and Bears look like wins.
I think Orakpo is more set as a 3-4 linebacker as in a poor man's Demarcus Ware. Don't think the Texans would have a whole lot of interest. I think they look DT, MLB or S in the first round.
more likely than not, you're right--he's gonna go high. But I could see "need" easily taking teams out of the mix and him falling to 12ish if someone takes Michael Johnson 1st..
That's not even close to being true. 10 INTs and 1 fumble lost this season. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2658
The offense moves the ball and turns it over a lot causing the defense to play more and more and wear down. Eliminate the turnover problem and both the offense and defense look a lot better. Here is the problem in black and white Racking up yards late in games against the prevent defense does not make the offense better, total yards from scrimage can be misleading. Oh, and get a better defensive coordinator...one who can actually put pressure with a Blitz.... Exactly. DD
why would they want a MLB when we got demeco that would be a waste of a pic... wat we need is a nother pass rusher
I don't think he is more set as a 3-4 linebacker at all, in fact, I think its the opposite. He's proven himself to be a great pass rusher who is also good against the run, obviously a team running a 3-4 will look at him as a OLB but a 4-3 defense won't shy away from putting him at DE one bit IMO. DT or MLB? I think those may be the last 2 positions (on defense) the Texans would draft in the 1st, especially a MLB. The DT class isn't looking that great so unless we reach for one, I could definitely see the Texans picking up a DE if a guy like Orakpo, Johnson, and even maybe Hardy is available.
He sure fits a need but I think 5 years of DL in the 1st round is a bit much. I think they should look to FA for the DL. I think OLB, DB(CB/SS/FS), C, RB, and DE are the needs going into the draft. I think 2 of those could be filled in FA.
I have not seen this too much. The turnovers have really hurt the scoring of the Texans, but they still suck on yards per play. The defense hasn't been strung out to dry too much this season because of turnovers...granted they would be better rested with fewer turnovers, but I wouldn't say rest is the reason behind poor defensive play as the offense does use up a lot of clock when not turning it over. I like what I've seen from Orakpo. I don't know if he can play on the strongside everydown. I don't know if I'd like mario on the strongside. It has its plusses and minuses. Another Horn of defensive interest would be Kindle. Probably a weakside linebacker in NFL, but he is an excellent blitzer.
Because Demeco is playing out of position. He's an outside linebacker by size and by skill. He was pretty much forced into moving to MLB, because we didn't have one. If Ray Maualuga from USC is there, the Texans would be dumb not to take him. The reason I say DT (Terrance Cody from AL) is that they need someone with size next to Amobi. They need a guy who can take on a couple of blockers to let Amobi use his speed an quickness to get to the qb.
DeMeco has led the team in tackles since day 1 and completely directs the entire defense, you don't fix what ain't broke. Mauluga is a very good prospect but he's not good enough to move one of the elite MLBs to the outside. If we do wanna upgrade at LB, a guy like Aaron Curry (OLB) is likely to be available. He's not getting a lot of publicity but he looks like a stud. I agree about getting a DT with some size, but from everything I've read about the upcoming draft, there really isn't a DT worth taking that early.
If the Texans were to get another bona fide pass rusher, it would free up Mario from some of the double teams he has been getting. We would put a lot of pressure on the QB...much better defense overall. We do need a CB though.
Thank you. If we can get another good DE opposite Mario, this will free Mario from double teams, frees up more linebackers to blitz (Adibi has shown streaks of being a decent pass rusher, in my opinion), but most importantly, if you're getting consistent pressure on the quarterback, that will be 1 to 2 less seconds the QB has to find an open man, thus making your secondary look better and have more opportunities for INTs. I've said it before, and I'll say it again...with our first pick, we need another good defensive end. With our second round pick, I say draft the best secondary player available. If Michael Jenkins is on the board, then you have yourself a dilemma.
Make it a good 4 for 4 on first round DL picks? Its horrible that weve spent high profile picks on a line that, besides Mario has proven to be lackluster. If we had Okoye fully develop, then we'd be fine with 2 mediocre, though complementary linemen. My vote goes to secondary, cause are we really satisfied with a dimeback from dallas? If not a cb, our safeties has been a parade of new Texans since we lost Earl in 07 preseason.
