Seems a bit suspicious about the Yao parents pairing. His mom was a national team captain, but his dad was only some regional team player. You'd think they would pair her with someone more talented, and made them have more than one child, if they were trying to engineer basketball talent.

The problem with Yao and his wife is that they are both injury prone. So the kid will be talented but fragile.

The problem is that most of the time we fly in to bomb their arses? So can you blame their hate for us?

why do some people automatically assume his kids can play ball. look at kareem's kids and MJ's kids.....they're not good ballers. if he has a few kids he might get lucky to have one kid play in the nba like luke walton

Well said. The chance that Shaq's kid will become the most dominating center in the league 20 years later or even a #1 pick is about 1 in a million.

Government got to your head too. I'm sure yao wasn't selectively bred. I'm sure those gymnasts weren't 12. And all that funny business East Germany was up to? Never happened. ******* USA and their steroids.

Yup. That's simply a misunderstanding of what's alleged about Yao's parents' pairing. No one alleges that the head of the Chinese Communist Party ordered them paired as a matter of national security. All the articles have said simply that one of the coaches matched them up. Some coach isn't going to have access to every possible male athlete in China. It was as simple as an elder matching 2 kids up who he thought might be compatible. Even in China you can't randomly order 2 people to marry and procreate a basketball star. That kind of idea is as offensive as the idea that blacks were bred as chattel under orders of their Plantation masters to produce more docile, less intelligent, and stronger black slaves.

If you find the latter offensive I can't see how any rationale human being can't see how offensive the prior is.

At the same time it's irrational fail to acknowledge that any child of Yao and his Olympic-caliber wife wont have a greater likelihood to be a world class athlete. It's not politically correct to say but certain genes and bloodlines make you more suitable for certain things. Samoans are greater than an order of magnitude (something like 40x) more likely than an average American white kid to make it to the NFL. How much of the LPGA are Korean women? How many sprinters are African or black? Genes play a part.

One reason why MJ's and other ballers kids aren't pro level is simply because those dudes aren't necessarily selecting wives based on worthiness to produce world-class athletic children. Many times those guys marry light skinned women or women from other races. You get half your genes from each parent. Are you telling me that if Karl Malone knocked up Serena Williams their kid wouldn't have a greater than average likelihood to have athletic genes? It's not guaranteed obviously but there's a greater probability and that's even assuming that you even want your kid to follow in your footsteps.

Yao's kids are almost guaranteed to be taller than average (probably significantly taller), will likely have some degree of dexterity like their parents, and will have an environment that understands athletic discipline and the resources (financial and otherwise) to nurture whatever talent they do inherit. If Yao's kids do grow up in the US, one advantage will be that his kids will be exposed to wide range of sports in Texas. Who knows maybe in 20 years the QB at Texas or pitching for AAA ball will be a Yao.

I read in Yao's book, that Yao's parents would of had more kids if it wasn't for the law in China saying couples can't have more then one kid. Since Yao split time in Houston and China, can he have more then one kid if they are born here? Yao would be stupid to have his kid be born in China if he has the option of having his kids born here in the U.S. where they are more options.

How high they grow will depend a lot on which city they're in. In some places, it could be well over a mile. I'm sorry, I should have said "well over 1.6 kilometers."

Now look what you've done....taking a perfectly crappy thread away from hoops, genetic engineering, and the metric system. I mean this was getting mildly humorous.

    But it's not anymore, Hayden.

Don't bring that garbage into this forum.

Same goes for your previous post.
