Well, I just found out that I am now officially a victim of the economic meltdown.

The project manager of the project I have been consulting on since November 2007 sent an email to my staffing company informing them that my last day on the project will be Friday February 6th. I've got about a 6 month cushion saved up.

    Anybody need a PeopleSoft consultant?

    Happy New Year.

    :(

Yeah sorry to hear about it RMT. Best wishes on the job hunt.

As for Rich Man Poor Dad, I would not base business decisions on them. It's more of a philosophy (out of many) at best.

Thanks fellas. I'll be fine. I have no family to support, and the only bill I have is my house. It's their loss, not mine.

What a bummer. Best of luck to you, and it's good that you have some saved up. That was smart.

That sucks, sorry to hear it.

Ever think about teaching guitar out of your home? You get enough students and you can make a nice supplemental income. All without leaving the house.

Today 10 people were let go at my company. I've heard from many friends today about layoffs occuring at their place of employment today. I've never experienced this kind of economic downturn before. What a stressful economic state we are in. Sadly this in only the beginning here in houston.

It may be awhile according to the experts. You may want to pursue a PhD :)

For real, unless you're planning on leaving the country when you graduate you might as well prepare to take it in the butt.

    1) in professional school right now (a public school) so tuition has increased dramatically (from around $15k to $28k in a few years) b/c the state budget is so pathetic right now

    2) student loans with ridiculous interest rates

    3) parents struggling to get by

but i'm optimistic obama will get the economy back on track and when i graduate, hopefully i'll make that dough.

My personal situation is okay, though its just stable low pay mediocrity. For no reason besides clients maybe feeling sorry for us the past holiday season we're getting paid even more for our work and have had less worries about meeting expenses. Usually its the opposite in this economic condition, but we'll see if the trend lasts...

My worries are OTHER people affected. Part economy/part personal. Some friends and family I'm close to either got let go from their jobs understandably, or they quit their job just no apparent reason just they didnt like it

Not that I'm blaming people, its more after WARNING them time and time again that the good times wont always last and to secure SOMETHING, now they need my help even though I'm barely getting by and my 401K's took a dip. Which would still mean lifestyle changes like moving out to share a residence with them and still having to look for other work. Or moving them in with me and having to find part time work, having to sell belongings or pay to put stuff in storage to make room. Which its cool to help, just that my aging bones havent been in hustle mode for quite a while. I gotta start working out again just to survive the stress. When the people I'm helping coulda just KEPT THEIR JOB and maybe stayed on

Now I see why people get married and by a house. Keeps themselves locked into their own livelihood, and kept away from moochers, slackers, and others thinking you dont have anything better to do than get involved in their life's endeavors cuz you're "free" and by yourself.

I can't describe how much anxiety I 've experienced in the last couple of weeks in regards to employment. There is a rumor that my company is going to have a big layoff this coming week. Unfortunately, we already had layoffs last year to trim the fat so to speak. So there is almost no fat left. If there is a significant layoff this time around, we are going to lose some muscle. Everyone is screwed in this scenario. The person losing their job, or the people left behind busting their ass to take up the slack. Also, its almost impossible to predict who its going to be because everyone is a solid contributer. These are the times I miss all the incompetent and lazy coworkers I've worked with. They were a nice cushion.
