I was talking present day really. I became a fan around 1993 when I was 9 years old.

I mean if we're talking "look what my favorite team accomplished 10-20 years before I was born" sure I'd be a lot happier.

It was fun being a fan back in the Coach Chucky - Rich Gannon - Tim Brown era, but the last 6 years have been unfathomably sucky.

My team's owner is so senile he believes he can still put together an NFL team by drafting based purely on speed and arm strength.

The coaching ever since Gruden left has been atrocious. Kiffin was a bright spot and I think really could have done well here, but of course Al ****ed that all up because he wouldn't give him any control.

    Its just a nightmare.

93, huh?... let's see, since 1993: we blew a 32-point lead in a playoff game; imploded in a home playoff game after winning 11 straight regular season games; endured two lame duck seasons of awful football before our team bolted for tennessee; sat on the NFL sideline for five years; and have now endured 7 years of bad football and not a single winning season.

but yeah - since making the super bowl six years ago, you've certainly had it rough..... (eye roll)

yeah, this isn't close, moe. you also were in the playoffs losing to the pats in the snow...the operative words being, "in the playoffs." and you represented the AFC vs. the Bucs. the texans would love to have that kind of record over the same period of time.

Can we argue about Rox versus Bulls? Or Astros v whoever?

Damn those Texans, they've reduced to engaging in--and winning--arguments about which town it sucks worse to be a fan in.

It’s really the only leg we have to stand on as far as trash talking is concerned.

Being a Texan/Oiler fans sucks more than being a ___________ fan.

Just put any team in the blank and you still win the argument. And it's not even close, really.

    Hakeem is better than _____________________.

The Astros have won more games since the 1994 work stoppage than _____________.

Earl Campbell can kick your team's RB's ass.

George Foreman is fat and old, and he can *still* kick your ass.

    Viva Los Dynamo!

    Kiss of death, baby.

    Carl Lewis and Mary Lou.

Lots of reasons to be proud of sports in Houston.

I should have been more clear and left out the Oilers part.

The Cardinals are 7-3 this year (following an 8-8 season last year....) and will probably make the playoffs. They’ve beaten their arch nemesis this year (cowgirls) and sent their season into a tailspin. No such luck for us. We are 2-11 vs. our arch nemesis alltime. Not to mention that our arch nemesis is currently 10-0 and probably on their way to the Superbowl.

The Lions...well, you have a point there. But in the years since the Oilers left Houston, the Lions at least have 2 playoff appearances. 2 more than Houston football fans have in that time period.

They have talent on their lines. We don't outside of Mario and maybe Amobi when he is healthy. But what the heck is wrong with sending a LB in on a blitz once and a while? Blitzing them should have nothing to do with our cb's...

I don't want to argue but it is obvious that rushing the front four all the time only is not getting anywhere.

Also, do the Giants and Titans send back their slow defensive ends into pass coverage??? Weaver has been sent back more times than acceptable...

well, currently, our back 7 struggles in coverage and are constantly getting burned - you think sending one of them to blitz (especially when only one of them shows any legitimate football instinct) wouldn't pose a problem?

Well forgive me the title read "How hard is it being a Texans fan"

I didn't know I was going to get a barrage of Oiler fans who still cringe at the mention of Frank Reich. If you're going to include that I'm not even going to try to compare.

My response was aimed at "Texans"

apologies for trying to lower myself to your excellence in futility.

It won't be worse than what we do now... The point of a blitz is to throw the qb off obviously. If we run the same front four only attack, it doesn't chance the qb's timing. A blitz would force the other team to either pick it up and free up a lineman or that lb or safety come in and apply some pressure.

Point is they can't allow the qb to have all the team they do allow him to have currently.

Also, the Giants do blitz. Check how many times their LB's were in the back field during the Super Bowl and through all the games this year.

    (cringe)

you know - it's funny (and i think i wrote about this on my old site): the buffalo game isn't the dagger to me that it is to so many others - it was so off the charts surreal and improbable that maybe it simply doesn't register. as my friend said at the time: if they had to lose, at least it was historic. and though we didn't know it at the time, that game has actually granted eternal life to the "oilers," even if it is in infamy.

but that '92 team wasn't the best of that era, it was a wildcard game, which we had won before....

to me, the '91 bronco and '93 chief games were ten times more difficult to swallow - both teams were infinitely better than the '92 team (both division winners); both games were in the second round, meaning we were thiclose to playing for a super bowl berth; hell, the chief game was at home - the oilers had never enjoyed a bye week and had never hosted a divisional playoff game.....

those two are very nearly impossible for me to discuss - those were the two best teams/chances......

well, those of us who don't arbitrarily choose favorite teams when we're 9, usually do so geographically: i'm not a texan fan, i'm a houston fan. so the oilers/texans are somewhat a package deal in this regard.

it actually would. again, if 7 guys can't cover... how is taking one away going to help - do you really think greenwood would suddenly become effective if he was blitzing?

the majority of teams rarely blitz, and when they do, are often burned. they texans have to play conservatively; they really have no choice.

I understand that, but there are a number of "Oiler" fans from Houston who had to find a new team to follow when they were moved or even *gasp* just decided to become a Titans fan. You can't say there isn't some level of disconnect between the Oiler fans and Texan fans, especially from the younger generation of fans.

Again, I apologize if I misunderstood the topic and assumed the guy meant "place A" vs "place B" rather than "team A" vs "team B"

I never intended to argue that being a Raiders fan was far worse than being an Oilers fan, thats a pain I've never had to endure. Thats a pain not many should have to endure. I'd say for the past 6 seasons, being a Raiders or Lions fan has certainly been suckier than being a Texans fan.

And I'd hope you aren't questioning my loyalty to the teams I support, hell neither of my parents really followed sports, so that was all up to me. I chose the teams I support in an odd fashion at that age, but I've never once wavered and cheered for any other team.

My Raiders affiliation is actually the only geographical thing about the sports teams I support. I lived in California back then, they were on TV, my older brother was a big Raiders fan, I followed along.

As for the Rockets, who the hell knows... I saw them on TV for the first time during some regular season game back in 94 and I just fell in love with them. I've gone to battle for them more than most people, living in Southern California in the midst of the Lakers Kobe-Shaq "dynasty"

I was "prepared" for the 93 loss. Because I'd been burned 2x before.

But the Bronco loss was my killer. Richard Johnson steps up...Elway lobs it over his head....weeping begins. Seriously, that was just awful. I thought we had that game.

The '93 loss killed me because not only did I think they had the defense to win it all, but it would erase '92.
