Yeah, it was, but I don't know why this board is so obsessed with downplaying this dunk. I'm waiting for the usual reply that comes next of how Hakeem ran the whole length of the court to block him. Guys, give some credit where credit is due. It was an awesome dunk. Period.
There it is. Apparently it happened sooner than I thought. Sorry, I have to disagree but the dunk was better. A power dunk by a 6'0" guard on the best shotblocker of all time is a lot more memorable to general basketball fans than Hakeem's block which pretty much just Rockets' fans remember.
Which is why we see Yao getting posterized more than him swatting a shot, or dunking on someone himself. Those are things that Yao are "supposed" to do, because he's big, but how many times have we seen Kobe's, Swift's, and others dunk on Yao? A lot of times. How many times do you see Yao's dunk on Ben Wallace, Theo Ratliff, or when Carmelo was a Rook in his first game he tried to dunk on Yao repeatedly and he kept getting denied. But if he had converted just one time......... Anyway, it was a great dunk, but Hakeem was very late on the rotation of that play. IIRC, KJ was in mid flight by the time Dream even started his ascent, way too late for him to do anything about it. To KJ's defense though, he was a little guy and he had the balls to even go in there, he connected on a few of these posterizations (Ewing and even Mark Eaton) About KJ though, I hated him, not as much as Stockton and Malone, but I hated him, but it was only because he absolutely torched us everytime we played them. He could absolutely get to the hoop anytime he wanted to. He was just naturally quick and fast. He could tell you which way he was going, and there was nothing you could do about it, he'd get by you anyway. As said before, he didn't have great range early on, but eventually got a pretty good 15-17 footer, but was never consistant beyond the 3.
Well said. That was one of the, if not the best dunk i've ever seen. It was nasty. A 6'0 guy dunking on a great shotblocker is such a bigger deal than a 6'11 blocker running the length of the floor to block a 6'0 guy's shot.
KJ was a very good player but i wouldn't say great. i think he definitely is underrated and didn't get the props he deserved during his career but i don't think he's a great player.
Not only did Barkley have his best years with KJ winning MVP on the team with the most wins and losing in the Finals to one of the greatest teams ever when Barkley joined a team where he could park his fat butt in the lane joined by other two other HOFers, he didn't get out of the WCFs. KJ was perfect for that team because not only was he money twenty feet and in he could drive to the basket on anyone and dish to a mobile, motivated Barkley for dunks. KJ and Isiah Thomas are two of the most underrated players in NBA because fans can't comprehend little guys dominating an NBA game, but KJ could take over a game just like a superstar. The guy was awesome.
He retired in 1998. I can remember him coming out of retirement one year when Jason Kidd got hurt. That was the 99-00 season.
Sorry. I'll have to disagree, because EVERY great center is going to get dunked on. It happened to Shaq, Hakeem, DRob, Ewing, Kareem, etc. However, seeing a center run down a PG full court to block him is unheard of.
KJ was great, but so were his injuries. The guy could rarely play a complete season (did he?). KJ trivia : he was drafted by a Major League team to play baseball. I don't remember who it was, though.

KJ was one of the best scoring point guards I have ever seen. Unstoppable when healthy. If not for his brittle hamstrings, he would have been regarded as truly special.
that dude could flat out ball ! (and he was 2 inches shorter than SF3) one game he dropped like 30 points and 15 dimes on the rockets (the rockets still won) amazing
Some of you should go look up his career numbers. Three times he avg over 20 pts and 10 assists, before the Barkley years. His third year, 22 and 12. And he he has another few seasons with 20 and 9. That dude is highly underrated. It is true he couldn't stay on the court though. If he could he might have challenged for most assists all-time. Edit: and he shot close to or over 50% those seasons.
