Some good responses on this thread and I agree with many. My own personal take is a little different though. I see him play and the hair just kinds of stand up on the back of my neck. I was at U ofH when Dream was and I didn't get that feeling until the midway point in his third NBA season. SF I knew was a great player when I first saw him, but even now it's not the same sort of chill up my spine. It's probably more comparable to Horry's playoff performance in '95, which of course did nothing really to predict his future, except that he may go down as the definition as a clutch performer (5 rings and counting aint bad coupled with his heroics). Eddie Griffin just looks really different to me than anyone. And he's 20. I can't even say it won't show up in the stats. because I think they'll be there soon. He is different to my eye, and just stands out in my experience. I can't really compare him. Funny thing about his jumper too, when he's calm it's sweet even when he misses. Two years from now Steve will be in his prime, Yao may be pretty damn dominant, but Eddie Griffin may be the best player on the team. He may not be able to prove he's better than Garnett at this stage, but he simply may be a couple of years from now. He could be better than anyone at his posistion once Yao starts being dominant at the center position. OK, it's impossible to tell, but if Yao develops the way we expect, I think it's possible Eddie really becomes the star. We should be happy fans.
Yeah I agree w/ you Declan he looks very special. He led the NCAA as a freshman in blocks, and he is the leader in this preseason in blocks. I think Rudy said last year that he looks better then Hakeem at his age. Which I at least dont think he would throw out there unless he really meant that. Ive been a fan since before the Rockets won a ring against New York when they got beat in playoffs by Supersonics. So I like them a lot. But I cant tell if it is because how much I like them or if they really do seem as good as they are. Because it seems that their potential is limitless. Rudy has said that he has had sleepless nights thinking of all the possibilities.
Everytime I think of our 7'6, 300lbs C and (hopefully by next year) our 6'11 240lbs PF, I start to loose my mind over the possiblities. Who's the best shotblocking team ever? I'm sure that the mix of Grififn, Ming, Cato and T-Mo will put us up there as one of the best shotblocking teams ever. Can you imagine? If T-Mo gets comfortable on offense and can stay consistent, imagine this: Ming Griffin T-Mo Mobley Francis Imagine that team, next year. Meaning, after T-Mo works a little more on his offense, Griffin gets another year of experience, and Ming is not a rookie or fatigued anymore. Then you have Boki, Cato, and Moochie completing the rotation. That's championship caliber.
