Rodman was one demensional. Hey Rodman was there against Robert Horry in that series against San Antonio.. What happened? ohhhhh. Robert Horry was playing the PF and Rodman couldn't guard him outside. ohhhhh clutchh sit tay
I agree with you on Rodman... but what about Dennis Johnson? I don't think it's even arguable that he was a better "role player" than Horry.
so being good at certain things would be being one of the best clutch shooters in the game. he played excellent D for us.
I totally forgot about that...but he did hit 5 threes in the 4th quarter of Game 4, that helped the Rockets come back from 20 down to send it to overtime.....one of the most amazing quarters of basketball I've seen him play. It was his last game as a Rocket.
Ironically I was just watching some show about old NCAA tourney games. In one Big Shot Bob missed a shot at the buzzer and Alabama lost. Can't make them all!
None taken.... I never said that Horry was greater than Reggie.... I stated that Horry was the Reggie Jackson of Basketball... Reggie was called Mr. October, because during playoff time is where shined and went from Clark Kent to Superman.... The same as Horry during playoff time.
I think what a lot of people overlook when talking about Horry in his Rockets days was his defense. Originally with the Rockets he was a small forward. But due to trades injuries he ended up playing PF. He had to guard Barkley(and did an amazingly good job at it), Karl Malone, Horace Grant, etc. He really stepped up his defense in the playoffs as well. It wasn't just his clutch shooting.
Imagine how great he could've been if his mysterious power of "hitting shots in the clutch" manifested itself before the end of the game, but alas, he wasn't Big Shot Rob during the game, shooting 42.5% for his career. He wasn't a great shooter, he wasn't a great rebounder, his defense was above average at times. Somehow for hitting a handful of shots, he's gained some kind of legendary status. Hopefully your game comes down to the wire, because otherwise, Rob's not going to really stand out. He played an important role in Rockets history, and he hit some key shots for a lot of teams, but he's way overrated by many.
This is different. He never led a team and was in the right team and the right time. Most of those championships probably would have been obtained without him.
he wasnt following kobe. he was following shaq. he said his strategy was to go where the premiere big men were. hakeem, shaq, duncan
Horry had GREAT PLAYERS around him that is a fact, whether or not he lived up to potential is besides the point, sometimes just being in the right place @ the right time, and being good at a certain thing (in his case clutch shooting) is what is best for the team. What is also a fact is without him on those teams I believe at least 3 (probably closer to 5) of those 7 rings he won with the team, that team would NOT have won the title. 94-95 Rockets Lakers vs Kings that year (can't remember which year that was) Spurs vs Pistons ^ These 3 FOR SURE, minus Robert Horry, they would not be champions imo.

A great talen a very much inconsistent but he made big plays in the clutch. When I think of him I think of this game. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199511150TOR.html I know it's an obscure game but this game he didn't score a point until the last 3pt of the game.
My biggest disappointment with Horry is that very early in his career he showed flashes of being an all-star level player. He was very talented, but lack of motivation, and a bruised tail bone, kept him from reaching his potential. I had just begun to feel like Horry was taking it to another level of actually attacking the basket and being a slasher when the Knicks put him on his butt. He lost motivation to attack the basket then and became an oustide shooter. His defense was very good, in fact, possibly very under-rated. He could guard both forward positions, and his size with athleticism combo could create issues for players at both positions. One of the best things he was good at was passing. Very under-rated skill, but he got that ball down low to Hakeem in good position very often, with guys all over both of them. If Yao had a guy like Horry to get him the ball in the post, he'd score a couple extra baskets a game by getting the ball in good position without turnovers. He could fill in lots of curved numbers on a stat sheet. 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3-4 steals, 5 assists would be a pretty normal night for him. He did a lot of things pretty well, not to mention he became a very capable outside shooter. So Horry is a strange beast. He disappoints on what he could have been, but exceeds all expectations on what he did become.
