I don't remember FF8 being hard or frustrating at all. Maybe you just missed some vital info or you didn't figure out an easier tactic to use. Reminds me of what I did a long time ago when I played FF1, I didn't know how to equip armor/weapons and it was practically the toughest game I've ever played. I went more than halfway through with my monk being my only damage dealer. I had to level for days just to get past certain parts of the game.
I actually thought FF8 was irritatingly easy. It was just one reason I put it down in disgust. The card game was sweet though.
