Whenever in doubt, just remember that everyone on this board thought a broken, old Steve Francis would be the missing piece of our would-be championship, and things will make more sense.

    ;)

33th pick, and people call him a bust without playing in a single NBA game.

Give him some time, Morey doesn't sign 4 year contracts for nothing.

He needs to commit to getting better, if he does that he might make it.

But, I will bet Morey wishes he only signed him to a one year deal.

    :D

I hear you. But that's harder than it sounds. We overestimate our ability to change what's between people's ears. It can be just as hard as changing what's below their necks.

Yeah you could probably measure a lot of the "intangibles" NBA players possess by their intelligence. See Shane Battier. The NBA scouts didn't post his SAT scores when he was at the draft camp but I bet you it's had more of a positive impact on how he turned out as a player than his vertical leap has.

Dorsey probably runs the other end of that spectrum. Jumps out of the building. Wingspan >7ft. Dumber than the American healthcare system. What do you think his SAT would have been had Criminalipari not been complicit in someone taking his SAT for him to make him eligible? And pull the strings to make it possible for him to get a college degree LOL  .

Seriously, you've seen him talk. I think all you need to know was from last year's preseason:

Dorsey: "I've been working on my 3-pointer. You guys have never seen a player as good as me."
Yao: "Yeah let him yap his mouth as much as he wants, when the season starts he won't see a minute off the bench."

Destroyed. And with it Morey's chances of ever drafting such a dumb player ever again.

it wont be that difficult for him, since he really only needs to play one end of the court. his role on the rockets is supposed to be a second unit uptempo big man. he needs to watch tape of birdman and turiaf, work on his rotations, and put the effort into studying what real NBA defense is all about.

I say this with very little hesitation: once he learns what he's doing, Joey Dorsey could potentially be one of the best big men at guarding the pick and roll in the entire league. he has literally everything you want from that perspective. footspeed, recovery ability, leaping ability, agility, good shotblocking instincts, wingspan, etc. the potential of the rockets being able to cover essentially their biggest defensive weakness is worth having him on the roster for.

I'm with you on this one. I believe it's far more probable that RA was saving his secret weapon for next season and went ahead with Hayes and Cook to keep the Zen Master off guard.

    An elegant tactician, he is.

I like to think of him as a poor mans Chuck Hayes.

Can't see him getting any significant playing time on this current roster. I would be surprised if he is ever in the rotation. Flame me if he proves me wrong.

Could have had Mario Chalmers who was the 34th pick.

give him time, he was injured for most of the season and its not like he was a high pick to create so much expectation

to those questioning what injuries he had, he struggled with plantar fasciitis for just about the entire year. i still don't think he would have played but it's not fair to judge him based on this one year. give me a break.

He don't need no stinkin' jump shot.

Just dunk the ball and block some shots. Not too much to ask for, is it?
