MJ shot way too much but found ways to win rings. Wade knows how to win against a ref-favoured Dallas team. Carmello is stuck witha nice hair.
Wade had a better opportunity on a better team. let's not forget, carmello already proved he could win on the college level, he still has time in the nba.
Over-hyped? The dude freakin took over every single game they won and if it wasnt for him the loser champs....some of you guys are crazy
how can you say that, shaq already has three rings without wade. given that the team became championship caliber after the shaq trade, shaq is the one who makes his teamates better.
A guy dismatles the deepest team in the NBA by himself, wins finals MVP, earns second team NBA and all defensive second team, and he's overhyped? Makes perfect sense to me...
the other thing hilarious about this thread is that some of you guys give so much grief to nba players because they can't play the international game, and now there is a guy who is perfect for the international you dismiss it because you don't like him.
What!!? He LED his team to a championship. Yes Shaq makes the team better, but Wade is the go to guy. The guy that made plays down the stretch. How is he overhyped? We must of been watching two different Finals.
You're damn right he beat the Mavs all by himself. Who besides Shaq had even a halfway decent series? Walker and Williams both shot under 40%, Posey only shot 41%, Haslem couldn't even outrebound Wade, while Mourning and Payton were non-existent. He scored 20 ppg more than the second leading scorer on the Heat in the finals (which WASN'T Shaq, BTW), which I would bet is some kind of record. Wade carried the Heat even more than Hakeem carried the Rockets in '94. I'd put his finals performance against any of Jordan's performances...
hakeem nor jordan ever played against a weaker defensive team than the mavericks, who's star was shut down by wade's teamates who you so casually dismiss.
strike two: Dallas was 7th in opponents ppg and 10th in defensive FG% last season. Plus, they held Dallas to 92 ppg despite Wade's 34 per game. The only person that Dallas couldn't stop was Wade...
If it wasn't for the finals series, Wade would not be getting this much love. Wade is not perfect and is in a way "over-hyped", but he did lead his team to victory, not Shaq. Yes, Shaq had 3 rings, but the Shaq of last year's playoff was similar to Dream in the 1999 playoffs. And Wade's superstar status has a lot to do with today's NBA rules imo. Sucessful guards in the 80's and 90's got their asses planted with hand checks and hard fouls. The guards of today have a much easier road to success, not to say that Wade wouldn't have been great back then, but it's just so different now. The big men of today are so different too and in some ways, it's even more amazing that Yao is succeeding with a traditional post game. I know the competition is much worse, but it would be very difficult for big men of the past to duplicate their successes in today's NBA, with all the zoning, double teaming without the ball, etc. As for Carmelo. From everything I've read about the MTV stuff and other things, he sounded so terrible...but he really ain't so bad. I finally saw the "punk'd" episode and he didn't do anything violent...actually he acted reasonably well considering they were falsely accusing him and his posy of statutory rape. You also have to consider that he's from Baltimore. Baltimore, how should i say this...Baltimore is ghetto. They got rich people in Baltimore county, but the city of Baltimore is just ghetto. To find a kid that grew up in Baltimore that is respectful and good is rare, so considering that's where Carmelo is from...he ain't so bad. I still don't like him, but one must admit he is scary good. I think last year, he was more money with the game on the line than any other NBA player. You know how D-Wade was money in the playoffs (with a bunch of foul shots too, but he still was money)...Carmelo was twice that good in the regular season.
i agree, if wade had to go against the defenses jordan had to go through, with the rules back then, no way he goes off like he does. the rules are the rules, so I won't hold that against him but everytime he was touched he went to the line. its not like what jordan, or hakeem, or any other superstar had to go through. to his credit,he has taken advantage of the situation, and he is clutch.
PPG is nice but all it tells you about is the number of possessions, not the quality of defense; Dallas' defensive EFFICIENCY was average last year and in fact worse than the year before. That said, Wade was the best player in the world in June and thats when it matters. Well, yeah, and all Cris Carter does is catch touchdowns, lol.
