You need to chill. If you want to talk like that, take it to the D&D. I only said Sterling's prostitute was cheap in comparison.
His death is probably not long off. I wonder who will inherit the team and if they'll finally be competitive then.
it said there was a running tab on every single sexual encounter. she would pleasure him anywhere and everywhere because she knew he would pay half a grand for each time. just put it on the bill. no wonder she was a freak. and the article also says that the Clippers are one of the most profitable teams in the League, even with their atrocious record.
As long as Sterling continues to vote for Stern's policies and financial raises every year, David Stern will never force him to sell the team. His tenants aren't the only victims of his deplorable behavior....fans are being duped by him as well.
First off, LA is Lakers' country. The Clippers will always be "the other team" no matter how well they play. You think Jack Nicholson and all those celebs will suddenly change their allegience if the Clippers became a winning team? Secondly, I don't know how the details work, but I would imagine having better ticket sale doesn't cover the big payroll you need to assemble a contending team unless you have a Kobe or a LeBron. Most of the direct revenues are shared among all teams. So keeping the payroll small is the easiest, least risky way of making money in the NBA.
Sterling bought the wrong sports franchise if he has something against Afro-Americans. Should have bought a hockey team instead. Explains why he treated like Elgin Baylor like crap, Baylor alleges Sterling only paid him $350,000 a year to be the GM.
They do just fine with a crappy team, they talk about it in the article. The Clippers never make much money off of ticket sales compared to the other teams, but they have no debt, keep a low payroll, and only pay $1.5M a year on their Staples Center lease. Since moving to Staples they've made $140M in profits. In that same span the Mavs have lost $137M.
You know, I was a bit disappointed in Elton Brand for leaving... but reading this makes me understand that was one of those "ball don't lie" situations. Sterling and the Clips deserved it. Though what Clips fan did to deserve this mess I have no idea,
The ESPN mag hit up the sexism/racism angle well. This LA Weekly piece from last year, touched upon in the article in reference to the "Zombie Girl," is also devastating in its takedown over Sterling lying about starting a homeless shelter, in order to publicly laud himself for starting a homeless shelter & deflect attention from the fair housing lawsuits. "Donald T. Sterling's Skid Row Mirage" Just a worthless human being. (The funniest part of both pieces is the idea of Donald Sterling himself, late at night, literally cutting and pasting those horrible ads he gets placed for free/in trade in the big LA papers.) On a side note, ESPN Magazine has been doing some good investigative journalism lately. Speaking of worthless human beings, I didn't see this absolutely brutal destruction of former MLB all-star (and OG steroid user) Lenny Dykstra mentioned on this site: "Dykstra's Business: A Bed of 'Nails'" Those two articles are where sports reporting should move toward.
