It was NOT Phil Jackson it was Dean Smith at North Carolina.

    And it went like this...

Dean "Michael there is no "I" in team"

MJ " Yes coach, but there is one in win"

That is how I remember it.

Well, at least for tonight Kobe didn't imitate Jordan, so he does have some uniqueness to him...

He won't surpass Jordans legacy. But he has the same killer instinct and desire to win. Nobody mentions that. By the way, the last player I saw with that same obsession was Dream along with MJ and the others during that era. If the NBA imitated Jordan and those guys more, this would be a whole lot better league.

It's one thing to imitate a great player's game. It's another to imitate his walk, his talk, and his mannerism INTENTIONALLY. That's just childish.

I've grown to like kobe a bit more but I have to agree. no one said he shouldn't imitate the game, but the mannerisms are a bit over the top.

Wow! It's scary how his mannerism/movement/and playing style is similar to Jordan's!

He's a great player indeed, but there's no doubt whatsoever that he tries too damn hard to not just be remembered as a great player on par with Jordan, but actually be Jordan with the way he talks, walks, and acts.

I don't think there's a single other all-star player in the league whom I can say that about.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I'm sure MJ imitates other basketball players.

Some people really hate Kobe Bryant this much? I mean i'm no fan of Kobe either - but jeeze.

I don't know, I think of MJ, Bird and Magic since I have been watching a lot when I think will to win (maybe Isiah too). Hakeem was probably better overall than Bird or Magic (and definetly better than Thomas), but not because of his will to win but unmatched physical abilities to dominate. That is why Hakeem fell off his peak much quicker (once he lost a little quickness and athleticism circa 1996 he could not compensate in other ways like Jordan found ways to do). Shaq is in the same company as Dream also because of his physical advantages, not because of his will, mental focus or competitiveness advantages.

IMO Kobe doesn't belong in this discussion because he has never been the MVP of a single playoff series winner. It is already looking arguable Lebron is a better competitor than Kobe.

I think the Spurs and Kings would beg to differ. Kobe's definately been the driving force in getting them knocked out of a round or two.

Look, this is Kobe's second season being the team leader and he carried a team of scrubs to the playoffs. You're telling me that a lineup including Kwame Brown and Smush Parker is second round material? The Lakers had no business even thinking about the second round, but credit Phil Jackson for adjusting to his opponent and giving his team a real chance. But they were one rebound away from knocking the Suns out, the same Suns team that could possibly be in the Conference finals in a matter of time.

Kobe should have taken more shots in game 7, i don't know what he was thinking. He should have seen that his teammates where overwhelmed by the situation and put them on his shoulders. But he has yet to find that middle ground of when to stick to the game plan and when to go it alone.

You have to give him time to adapt to being a leader, its probably much harder than even he expected. Once he does, and once the Lakers surround he and Odom with some real talent, (Maybe Kwame can realise his potential) then we can see what he is capable of. Because, one player cannot carry a team by himself.

There are quality role players who constantly do their job at a high rate (Hakeem's Rockets, Phoenix Suns) and there are scrubs (Yao/Tmac's Rockets). Scrubs get nothing done, no teammate can make them better. If "making them better" is getting them open looks and they knock it down thats great, but if those same players miss those open looks all of a sudden their team leader has the inability to raise their game? It makes no sense.

Everybody on the floor needs to do their damn job. If the rest of the Rockets showed for game 7 with T-Mac and Yao we would have been in the second round, but yet they failed show up. And somehow T-Mac went from being a great team leader to another "first round playoff failure" in the span of two games while doing the exact same thing.

very good! i also don't like how people usually call shaq the most dominant, etc. when he and kobe both won the 3 rings for l.a. however, it's shaq who got all 3 finals mvp. that's so unfair for kobe. i bet if heat wins a championship, more credit will be given to shaq again. shaq was nothing before kobe's arrival. kobe, however, can still play great without shaq. maybe he's not as good as jordan, but remember jordan had pippen, who's on the list of 50 best. that's one heck of a sidekick. didn't he win an all star mvp too? if kobe had someone of pippen's caliber, i don't think he'd be on vacation now. kobe has no one.

why do you think he went straight for that Colorado girl's rectum? if that's the first thing you head for when you're with a chick, that's some serious homosexual tendancies right there.
