I second the general sentiment of the OP. JSmith is a big man version of JR Smith before 1 month, all potential and game ability but play too much stupid ball. No way I'd want him for more than 10 mil a year, and that's because of the easy tradability of such contract, not to mention the clear max price tag. TJ has better offensive potential than JSmooth ever had. He can become a more athletic Boozer/West type PF. Oh, I prefer Boozer/West to JSmith anytime.
Josh Smith is one of the most athletic players to play in the NBA. It sounds crazy but not many guys in the league have had his athleticism. T Jones is not as athletic but how many guys are? With that said T Jones is still very athletic, has skills and is working hard. I believe he can be our PF.
TJones will be the next TJones. But I do think his upside is JSmooveesque. I would be very upset if Morey traded him this offseason.
It doesn't work like that... First you can't really compare 15 minutes to 30 minutes per game. And you can't compare a back of the bench player to one, that has been an integral part of the rotation - Teams game planned against Smith, teams leave Jones open and a lot of his points are due to that. But even if you could compare that, one is a very unproven rookie - promise in one year could turn into a total bust the next year. It is just way too early to tell if Jones can ever turn into a legitimate starter. Smith is a legitimate starter - and he is a borderline star. I'd say there is about a 90% chance that Jones will never come close to the production, that Smith gives you. Of course Smith is no no brainer (no pun intended...) - he might come too expensive (he is not worth the max, yet someone might offer it to him) - and he alone probably is not enough to put propel us into championship material. But he is the most attainable player that improves this team a lot (especially on defense, where we have our biggest weakness, but also as another scoring threat and a high energy rebounder). So this discussion shouldn't be - does Jones make Smith obsolete. If Jones improves a great deal, then we have a great tade piece in either Jones or the new guy we sign. The discussion should be: do we invest heavy money in a player, that might not be enough for a championship, or do we wait for the big superstar (Dwight, CP3, Love, Aldridge...). And I leave that to Morey to decide...
I'm on board with not spending big money this summer and giving TJ and TRob time to develop and work with the coaching staff. Rox would be better suited taking a run at K Love or Aldridge in year or two if need be. Would rather use money to bolster the bench with Tony Allen's perimeter D..doubt Memphis can afford to re-sign him.
For 10m per, I'll take Josh Smith. Every dollar over that, I say we look at alternative options including TJones.
$10 mil would be bargain basement for JSmoove. i'll pee myself in public if he doesn't take more on the open market.
That is a truly amazing vertical. Most players can only get to three feet, four feet at best. Thirty five feet, now that is something.
Yeah, but in the last two games against the Suns, whenever Scola gets defended by Jones, he puts on a clinic. After Scola single handily lead the Suns back when matched up against him in the previous game, I'm confused why McHale would subject the kid to another bout of that in the last game.
Training. McHale indicated that sometimes he leaves guys out there (other than Lin, lol) to learn. As TJones learns to stay down on the Scola fakes, his defense will improve, as he is long enough to bother Scola even without leaving his feet (because Scola rarely leaves his).
I'm sorry, I thought we were interested in 2013 Josh Smith, not 2005 Josh Smith. But while we're using the free agency time machine, 1994 Hakeem Olajuwon is probably a better guy to chase than Dwight.
So you are telling me he can jump up to my roof on my house without running? Whoaa that is impressive...
LOL I saw that earlier. I was like WTF? I know JSmoove shoots better than .174 from the 3's, but with certain posters, I never take their replies seriously.
What does everyone think of the smith comparisons now that tjones has gotten more playing time? Given, smith is somehow more dynamic, but that hasn't always been positive.
