Each year, the attacks on Obama vary from the Rush/AntiSonic/basso etc contingent. First Obama wasn't black enough early in the campaign and Hilary was going ot win the black vote. Then he was a radical black muslim kenyan anti-semite christian who followed black nationalist Jeremiah Wright. Now he's not really black again and any effort to help an awful humanitarian diaster is a simple ploy to win back his black supporters. Idiots....not much more needs to be said
If you're going to put me in that company, can you find any examples of me actually saying any of those things?
I agree that Rush is expressing his perception of political reality - he is a racist, so he turns everything he sees into racism. He turned a situation that had nothing to do with race into a race issue, specifically to create resentment amongst non-black voters. (The idea that he was expressing a legitimate political opinion is nonsensical. Obama has ridiculously sky-high approval with black voters and 95+% of their vote - why would he need a situation to help his standing with the black community?)

AntiSonic, You and I have been on this board for about....12 years +. I think this is the first time I disagree with you...or a rare time indeed. Reid's comment has nothing to do with Haiti or a quick reaction to a natural disaster, etc. This remark lacks the understanding and sensitivity needed to have the privilege of the podium that he is graced with. Its unreal that the hate of this kind can come out of someone (left or right) about a situation that is so dire its really incomprehensible to anyone who is blessed to never go through it. Its not a political issue (the Haiti disaster). And yet, people like Rush make everything so. Rush (and his like both on the left and right) should be put down like the mangy dogs that they are.
Maybe he just wanted to work in a cheap-shot on Reid then? I'm not going to argue that Limbaugh is above letting "crises go to waste" himself.
Dude...if God really does exist and is really in Pat Robertson's ear telling him all this stuff, I don't know what to think about about either of them.
Rush is a piece of $#!+. The dude is bad for the country, but I suppose if it weren't him it would be someone else spewing his ignorance. I sometimes wonder how much of it he actually believes and how much is just for his schtick. I also wonder when he'll eventually just go over the top and don klan gear. People who follow him make me sad for this country.
Space Ghost contribution of value: 0 times You're rapidly approaching donkeymagic levels of irrelevance.
EXACTLY. At least wait until they count up the dead before politicizing a freeking natural disaster. MORONS.
Well, you do seem to be "falling all over [your]sel[f]" to defend El Rushbo here so I am assuming that you sympathize with his comment.
Not to turn the attention away from the lovely ad hominem attacks that break out every time anything is being discussed (I'm guilty as charged here too), but to go back to Almu's point-- Isn't that understanding of material goods just Joel Osteen prosperity gospel stuff? Do people really buy into that? There just seems to be so much logic and reason on the side of if you want to have a closer relationship with God, material things shouldn't influence you one way or the other.

Rush's comment doesn't make a lot of sense. But, of course there is a political angle in the disaster. Obama can get some good humanitarian points from the voters and from other nations if he suceeds in helping Haiti. If the US operation goes very smoothly, he can even benefit from a Haiti/New Orleans comparison. Of course, if it goes badly, he can catch some flak for incompetence. There's definitely some political capital to be gained or lost by Obama in this whole mess. It's just that there isn't a lot of manuevering for him to do -- of course the US will send aid. Obama would be raked over the coals if he refused. The only question he can answer is how much aid to send. Besides that, the light-skinned and the dark-skinned blacks in this country, as Major pointed out, are not a significant part of the calculus.
