Please quit over-simplifying my "defense" of Limbaugh... and please quit over-simplifying the whole Limbaugh phenomena. Do you really think that Williams and Sowell are the only two blacks in America who don't think Rush is a racist? That's just silly beyond belief.
I think Limbaugh's opposition to the Obama agenda rises far above something is adolescent as "hatred." Obama's own WHCS is famous for a claim to not let any crisis get past without working it to a political advantage. This may be political reality but he got caught SAYING it... so Rush brings it up... and those here have a conniption. Much ado about nothing I think. It's just the everyday ugliness of politics not the beginning of the END.
Nope. It's just the everyday ugliness of you twisting yourself into a pretzel to defend another racist.
I don't disagree you, nor with your point, based upon your interpretation of what he said. I was just attempting to explain an alternative interpretation. I am not going to even weigh in on giddy's continued defense of that type of thinking.
Yes is opposition to Obama rises to a very noble and magnanimous defense of the American way. Give me a break. Rush didn't bring up Rahm's political advantage statement. What he did was bring up a made up claim that Obama was trying to gain cred in the black community here in this country. Of course you think it's much ado about nothing because you've shown you haven't the foggiest clue about racism.
What makes you think they don't think Rush is a racist? They might think so but are willing to work with him anyway for the career benefits.
The local FM talk show had Steve Roberts of ABC on as a guest this morning and while no mention of Rush Limbaugh was made, Roberts said (paraphrasing): 'Everybody knows that Obama's approval ratings in the black community has been fading; everybody knows that there was political calculation that went into his much anticipated remarks about Haiti.' Rush said about the same thing--only in a more crude form. Those of you griping didn't like him in the first place. Again, talking about race is not racism.
They both had successful careers. Radio is but a sideline to them much like country music is to FFB....
I find it amusing people fail to look at the big picture. Rush is only in it for the money. He wants people to talk about him. When his name starts to settle, he will go out and say something controversial. Just as Rush has his die hard followers, he has those who can't stand him so much that they must go out and tell everyone about his dirty deeds and what an awful person he is, including sitting behind a computer all day arguing about why they are right and he is wrong. I don't know if Rush is racist, but please, ignore the guy so he will go away. Score Rush: (number of threads created about rush) Rush Haters: 0
I just want to remind everyone that I didn't start this thread or any other defending Rush's remarks. I chime in when the diatribe against him descends to ugly name-calling or harsh calculations of his worthlessness or death threats against him. Carry on!
^^^ Fixed. giddyup has spent about twice as much time defending racists than he has on anything else in this forum. I'm starting to think calling him clueless on racism is too generous. Anyone who consistently sees no problem with these racists (and even counts himself as a fan of them) has pretty much got to be a racist himself.
I understand Giddyups point of view and I think its very ignorant to go around calling people racist. Racism exists because people simply won't stop going around and calling everyone racist. And if someone wants to be racist, they have every right to be one. Conservatives used to be the intolerant ones, but liberals are quickly taking their place expecting everyone to conform to their beliefs.
Quit trying to represent me. Who am I a fan of? Why are you counting my posts? I keep asking for the evidence of racism and all I get from you is race. Color me unconvinced. Sorry, gotta go and make a new black friend. My one here is moving away!!!
so, do you have a problem when rush does the same exact thing? how about his diatribes and ugly name-calling? the difference being, of course, that he has a national radio show and this is just a bbs (well, the best bbs) on the internet.
Are you just saying this out of some unformed belief or do you have some kind of real evidence? Granted it has been a few years since I listened to him with any kind of regularity but I never heard him call anyone a piece of **** or only worthy of Hell or wish that they would die. I'm aware of him citing people playing the "race card" but never calling them racist-- which has a specific and narrow meaning. Maybe he has and I've just missed it but I know I've not missed the repeated attacks on Rush as a racist from some of you here who are commenting on what a political entertainer said to energize discussion and broaden his audience. Rush is an entertainer... as SpaceGhost has pointed out. Because of his large audience, some want to consider him an arbiter of policy. But he's not. The Republicans went ahead an nominated McCain in spite of Rush's dislike of the man as a politician. I think that mostly you just take his comments too seriously. I think he is a lot smarter than most of us give him credit for. He is going for maximum impact and he pretty much gets it.
i'm not going to repost the litany of things rush has said that is offensive to people, racist or not. if you are now arguing that he's not offensive, then i don't know why any of us are even bothering with you. wait, i don't know that now.
Who said anything about him not being offensive? Sometimes I think you are just looking for a fight.....
