Lowry finished this game in specific b/c he has the size advantage that Brooks doesn't. Chris Paul likes to run his little pick and roll and then post up on Brooks with mismatches, that's y Lowry finished the game so that he could body up with like James Posey, but overall, Great win. plus, if only Ron Ron and Shane made a few of their three point attempts, Brooks could have gotten couple more assists.
let me point out that most rockets' fans didn't think deke was any of that or washed up. Haven't we been the ones asking to bring him back? I think everyone knew what Deke was/is capable of and the reasons you listed weren't why we thought Adelman was keeping him on the bench. It's because he's valuable so he only plays him on very specific situations to keep him fresh and avoid injury (not because he's old, but because they want to overprotect him).
the only reason why mutombo hasn't gotten any minutes this season is rick adelman. he doesn't like playing him because he's not suited for his offense. that's why he basically didn't want him back at the beginning of the season. deke is NOT too old. everybody knows and knew this. the way he plays age isn't a factor at all. well, maybe if you want him to be out there for 30 mpg on a regular basis. but nobody expects him to do that.
you are talking as if we run the offense through Deke.. why should he catch the ball in the first place.?
Yao grabs board. Invitation to strip. Deke grabs board. Mad man hangs onto his life. Day and night. Why can't Yao learn it. He's got a defensive legend to work with, not just a joking buddy.
If Utah gives Yao problems defensively, what makes you think they wouldn't give Deke the same problems?
the minutes which are left in the post after yao, scola, and landry are very limited (just ask chuck hayes). chuck gets used primarily for matchup problems. usually he's just our PnR defense specialist. deke really isn't quick enough for that job and after that there's basically nothing left. we're not a good enough offensive team to have him steal minutes from yao, or scolandry. if we had a coach who wasn't primarily concerned with offense (JVG) deke would surely see 10 minutes per game.
Or maybe Adelman was just clueless and he's probably as surprised that Deke can still play as some of you are. Adelman just didn't play him because he thought Deke was washed up and just serves as Yao practice partner and cheerleader off the bench. RA actually gave Deke some minutes a few games after he got here (around 5 mins or so), apparently didn't like what he saw and banished him to the bench after that. Its amazing how much faith people have on him. Adelman could pick his nose in the middle of the game and people would think he was sending Brooks some kind of secret play.
So far I'm not buying any of the reasons you guys came up with, why Adelman does not play Deke even at 10-12 mins per game. Deke is a professional athlete, even at his age, he can still play 10-12 mins at a high level. If anything saving him for the playoffs will not help Deke and us.
Deke knows how to play dirty and has the respect of the refs so he can get away with it. Boozer flops on him and you can be sure Deke will find a way to plant his elbows on Boozer's face the next play. On the other hand, make Yao Ming look foolish and all he'll do is make is make his frustrated face and lean over pathetically in exhaustion while the refs actually call the foul on him.
What the difference between 5 mins of play time a game and no mins? Will that amount of time really save Deke a lot of wear and tear? Everyone knows Deke plays good defense so its not like he's a secret weapon or somehting. On the other hand, that 5 mins means a lot on Yao Ming, because it extra rest time for him. It also gives him the luxury of sucking, since we have a viable replacement in the rare event he's giving the team nothing.
Agree, he alters the game. I get pissed sometimes when the rockets put the midget squad out on the court. You may think Im wrong but I would like to see Deke get some clock against teams like the Lakers and Spurs.
