You think Grizzles won't get Odom if they asked for it?
They don't want Odom. They wanted expired contract to rebuild. Odom is a big non-expiring contract.

What did Celtics pay to get R.Allen? And what did Pistons pay to get Rasheed? You tell me that's not a rob? You can name 50% of championships in the history with some sort of robbery.

You are only a whining b**** because Kobe's success hurts your feeling and you choose to believe it's scripted

The Boston Celtics today acquired guard Ray Allen and the draft rights to Glen Davis from the Seattle SuperSonics in exchange for forward Wally Szczerbiak, guard Delonte West and the draft rights to Jeff Green.

Celtics gave a lottery pick to get R. Allen. And like Antawn he was already past the age of 30 and well into decline. Did I mention he was also overpaid, and the Celtics were trying to shop around last season? Considering it was a 5th lottery pick that was not a rob at all.

Pistons got Rasheed Wallace and Mike James but traded away Lindsey Hunter, Chucky Atkins, 2 first round picks, Bobby Sura, Zeljko Rebraca.
Take note that unlike Pau Rasheed was basically damaged goods. He led the league in technical fouls, was supremely talented but was accused of dogging it all the time, and was generally seen as a cancer. It was a high risk high reward move, unlike the trade for Pau who was a no-risk high reward move.

With the showcase of 2008 Olympics, Marc Gasol would have been a top 5 pick, period.

I want to add another scenario or angle as to why this trade took place just for the sake of gossip.

Mr. NBA Logo, Jerry West , was the general manager of the grizzlies and was very influential in recommending his immediate successor Chris Wallace.
So Jerry west was very influential with the team that hired him to be its general manager once. And no one knows how good a player or no one has scouted Pau more than Jerry. Get the connection?

I don't think anyone would doubt where Jerry West's loyalties lie. He was a longtime player for the Los Angeles Lakers. He wanted to see the Lakers succeed again because seemed so frustrated and futile with his supporting cast.

How about Kevin Mchale , general manager of the timberwolves, sending its franchise player kevin garnett to boston. Incidentally , the general manager of boston is his former teammate danny ainge. Should we count an assist for Kevin on that one?

There is a human factor to all these trades so I'm hoping some team hires an ex houston rocket as its gm.

Marc Gasol is pretty good now, but that does not change how horrible of a trade it was. M Gasol was unproven, which vastly decreased his trade value. Consider the players who had anything close to Pau's resume: Amare, Boozer, Yao (!), Bosh. Trading any of these guys for Marc Gasol would be an absolute joke, regardless of cap situation.

A more realistic Memphis-Lakers trade would have been Pau Gasol for Bynum + expirings. This would give Memphis a young piece to build off with some proven experience. Lakers would get a proven big man and if they were truly so high on M. Gasol they could keep him themselves.

It is ludicrous to think another team could not come up with a better deal: how about something like Pau to Utah for Paul Milsap, CJ Miles, expirings, and the Knicks 2010 pick? I don't know Utah's expiring flexibility at that time, but it's hard to believe no 3rd team could have been talked into it, given that it would only be a MLE-type contract to deal with. The fact that something like this didn't happen is a sign of incredible laziness and panic by Memphis.

IT IS THE MOST LOPSIDED TRADE IN RECENT NBA HISTORY! IT HAS CHANGED THE BALANCE OF POWER AND ELEVATED THE PREMIER FRANCHISE IN THE LEAGUE, WHO JUST HAPPENS TO HAVE THE PREMIER PLAYER. ACCIDENT? MAYBE OR MAYBE NOT!

Truth is Kobe wasn't going to win another title as long as he didn't have a second star to elevate that team. The NBA may have stepped in and helped Kobe out. After all he wanted out. There's no way in hell you can make me believe that Wallace thought trading Pau Gasol for his little brother was a good trade. And please spare me the Kwame Brown & a 1st rounder arguement. And Jarvis "John Wayne" Crittenton is still a scrub!

Trading Pau Gasol for Marc Gasol is like trading Michael Jackson for Tito Jackson. Besides what have the Grizzlies done since? The Lakers have won about 75%-80% of their games, a Title, and have 2 straight Finals appearances & counting.

Gasol was the best player on three playoff teams in Memphis, one of which won 50 games. Gasol has also always been a much more efficient scorer.

When has Jamison ever been the best player on a playoff team?

    - He was the third leading scorer (fourth or fifth best player) on a good Dallas team in 03-04.
    - He was the third leading scorer on a 45-win Wizards team in 04-05.
    - He was the second leading scorer on a 42-win Wizards team in 05-06.
    - He was the second leading scorer on a 41-win Wizards team in 06-07.
    - He was the leading scorer on a 43-win Wizards team in 07-08

You don't rebuild with Lakers' first round picks and 2nd round picks.

    That Gasol trade was horrible.

    Memphis was bleeding cash

they were next to last in attendance

they were going no where with gasol

LA had what they wanted, especially Kwame's contract

    It was two years ago
