A+ if that future 2nd round pick turns a good vet later on. A considering that rox get 2 players instead of 1 which are high on the coach list. With picks this late, anything is possible, but starters or key bench players are not really expected. Hopefully things turns out better.
I think its a decent trade, especially joey, he's a freaking beast around the basket! The next Ben Wallace possibly.
lol i need to post a new thread and ask if anyone is worried that we seem to pretty much like the draft from averaging the poll numbers we are giving this draft an A-. Let's hope our opinions match reality.
I don't really understand how anyone can give this draft a bad grade. the rockets started with the #25 pick. two spots away from a pick that NOH sold off for cash. its hardly the best starting point for roster-changing moves. morey himself said that picks this low have a 1/4 chance of turning into anything productive, so what did he do? he turned that 1/4 chance into 2/4 this year plus an additional 1/4 next year. so instead of having all their eggs in one basket (one player at #25), the rockets have spread the risk over three players. we can argue about who those players should have been in hindsight, (i wouldn't have minded CDR or chalmers instead of dorsey) but just the simple fact that morey turned a bad first rounder into an equivalently bad first rounder plus two really good second rounders, while still getting his guy, deserves an A. also don't forget that the most valuable pick from 25-35 is usually number 31. if memphis sucks as bad as it looks like they will, that'll probably be the rockets pick next year. the man is a wizard i swear.
some of you are really piggy. i mean it has to be an a or even a+ considering morey turned our 25th into 28th PLUS 33rd AND got his guys anyway. but i don't get too excited on late 1st- and early second-round drafts. their immediate impact to the team cannot be great. fa signing and trades are more important and more exciting.
agree 100%, and i'm usually a pessimist. he flipped the 25th into the 28th, 33rd, and next years 31st (would bet heavy money on grizz being worst team in league). and he did all this while landing the player that he most wanted in the first place. as for how much of an impact the draft will have on our success this year, i'd say that it's pretty close to 0%, but how can you expect it to, starting out of the 25 spot? morey absolutely worked the draft over this year.
As far as which picks were best, I don't know. But, as far as wheeling and dealing, it was EXCELLENT. His scouts told him that the best guys they could possibly trade up for, from 13 on, were Lee, Rush and Greene. For Morey to discern that some quality guys were falling, and that one of those guys would be there when they picked, took brass cajones to wait. Then, to assess that players like Battum, Arthur, Chalmers, Jordan, and CDR were still highly coveted, and know what San Antonio, Portland and Memphis wanted, and pick Battum, knowing both Portland and San Antonio wanted him, then trading Battum to Portland to get Arthur and the #33, then trade Arthur to Memphis for the player they really wanted, and get a very high 2nd rounder next year ... that was some impressive horsetrading, and significantly increased our trading chits, which is where the real upgrade will come from this off-season. So, in essence, instead of trading Head and our pick to move up to get Greene, they traded back and got Greene, plus Dorsey at #33, who they felt was the best defensive big in the country, a muscle player who would do well next to Yao ... and a trading chit in the 2009 Memphis pick. Personally, I would have preferred we kept Arthur, and taken either Jordan, Chalmers or CDR at #33, instead of Dorsey. But, last year I thought Landry was a wasted pick, and he turned out to be the steal of the draft. So, I'll have to wait to see how this one turns out. But, as far as wheeling and dealing goes, you couldn't beat this with a stick.
Dorsey- Upgrade over hayes...Hopefully he can finish after a tmac dish Greene- needs playing time and hopefully shines...biggest question mark. Batum would have been same scenerio but arthur would have been nice. Memphis 2nd rounder- best of them all. Hopefully we can package this 2nd rounder + next years first + Bobby Jackson + Hayes + other players for a sign in trade for artest.
I think the picks were decent and if they can developed well under Adelman, it would interesting to see them in some games next season.
-The Houston Rockets made some sleek moves in picking up new big men prospects. After last year’s success with Scola and Landry, the Rockets acquired two new power forwards in Joey Dorsey and Maarty Luenen. Dorsey’s Win Score marks were exceptional for all four years of college while Luenen continually grew his game over his collegiate career. Since four young, promising power forwards are enough, Donte Greene was also taken, showing both Win Scores potential early in the season and bust-like qualities in the second half. Thats what DraftExpress said
we'll it's stay a pretty consistent A- after 500 votes. average of the votes from all 5 grades is a 4.11 aka A-. the more i see of dorsey the more i like the guy. it will be interesting to see what these guys do at summer camp. anyone know when it starts?
I give a B cuz I just want to piss off the posters here who thinks they are better than a real GM like D. Morey! I'm sure they are the same ones who thought Landry was a bad pick. I think we should wait until mid season to get a feel for our new rooks! I like the fact that we got more athletic on the SF spot, & added an "enforcer" to bang & help Yao. The west has just too many GOOD PF! Also, I think Morey is looking for a veteran SG. Time will tell. GO ROXS!!!!
For those still extremely high on Batum over Greene, I don't get it. Sure he's athletic and COULD develop but how long would we have to wait? Greene and Batum are about the same age, both under 20. Greene is a few inches taller and weighs more. Now Batum averages 12 points and 5 rebounds in his third year of play in A FRENCH LEAGUE. Greene on the other had averages 17 points and 7 rebounds in his first year of play in NCAA Division I basketball. In the Big East. Which is the better prospect? Not to mention Batum's father apparently died at a young age of a massive heart attack while shooting a free throw. I agree with Dorsey in giving this draft an A. Our scoring wing will come via FA or trade and Greene will have time to develop in the D-League. If we had taken CDR, who is pretty NBA ready right now he would have to play behind McGrady/Battier, the new wing, and possibly Luther Head. Not much upside, but then again Dorsey doesn't have much either. Dorsey, however is a defensive monster built like a tank who can back up Yao. Remember how Mutombo played about 0.1 minutes a game before Yao went down? He's getting old. Give Dorsey some time like Landry last year and pretty soon he should be able to be a solid compliment to Yao to take some of the load off. Instead of taking Greene straight up, we decided to deny our division rivals the prospect they wanted, get an extra pick at #33 to get Dorsey, get a valuable trade asset in a 2009 second rounder from Memphis (which will undoubtedly be high) AND get Greene. Give Morey a raise.
Regardless how the players turned out, the rockets (DM), turned 1 first round pick, into 1 first round pick and 2 additional second round picks, and still picked up the guy they wanted to start with. Just for all the cleverness, A for me. How many other GMs could've pull this off? I'd bet many would just pick Greene and call it a night.
I'am agree. Morey made magic with a 25 pick. (a 27 and a 33 pick this year and early pick next year). Better it's impossible.
