I love when casual fans bring up old news.

Casual: Hey, you know the Rockets got Steve Francis back?
Me : Yeah, that happened a few months ago. I hope he can actually play soon.
    Casual: Why isn't he playing?

Just letting you know.. First Lady probably doesn't belong in this group. What she knows is basically what I tell her about the Rockets. Now quick bury this thread before she sees this thread and decide to yell at me again!

Btw, if first lady goes.. I go :)
you know.. like.. a chaperon and stuff..

    Or even worse:

Casual: Hey, did the Rockets play last night?
    Me: Uh...yeah, they played.
    Casual: Who did they play?
    Me: They played the spurs
    Casual: Did they win?
    Me: Yes... They won.

I get that one ALL the time at work. If you have to ask if we played last night, you probably don't give a ****, so why are you even asking me?

Eh, I look at something like this and think the person is being nice. They know you're a huge Rockets fan (I'm assuming they know) and they're asking you about something you enjoy.

My sisters/parents/friends do that to me all the time when we talk about all my sports teams.

Agreed but I hate how they always seem to ask when the Rockets actually play. For example, I had that same conversation today. But I promise you it won't happen tomorrow or Friday. But it will happen Monday. These people KNOW the Rockets played, and probably know they won, considering they listen to the radio all day and read the paper. And yet somehow they do not know that they won. It just seems like sometimes they do it out of habit rather than really wanting to know.

That conversation is infinitely more infuriating after a loss.

I hate people whose only comment on Houston sports teams is that THEY SUCK!!!

"Yao Ming? How can you be that tall and that SORRY!!!!"

You know he was second team all NBA last year and a five-time all star?

    "Yeah but he SUCKS!!!!!"

How do you think the Astros will do this year?

    THEY SUCK!!!!!

But they went to the World Series last year.

    "Yeah but they SUCK!!!!!!!"

If you don't know anything just say so.

Y'all at least have people talking about the rockets...here is my life

fan: you see the lakers game last night?
me: nah i didnt catch it I was watching a different game
fan: WHAT? you didnt see the lakers game then? what were you watching
    me: my rockets game
fan: what how could you like that team? are you from houston
me: no lived in so cal pretty much all my life
fan: how the heck are you a houston fan then?

then I have to go into the whole explanation of that magical night I saw Hakeem Olajuwon play when I was 5 years old, the first basketball game I had ever gone too.

I've had to repeat above conversation every time there is a lakers or clippers game. so like 4-5 times a week.

most of my friends get into all houston sports,
for me it's baseball above all the other sports but basketball is second, i don't consider myself casual about anyhting i getinto, as for the casual fan conversation most people get upset with them because they don't sacrifice the time like we do, but really without casual fan the venue doesn't get filled up, i have only been to a couple of rockets game in my life mainly because i can't afford to take the family,
yes it's frustrating to hear a casual fan say something they consider intelligent about the rockets or whoever, but that's when the fun begins and you really get to put them on the spot

Why does it bother you if someone knows less about a sport/team than you do?

    that doesn't bother me

it bothers me when someone says they are a hardcore/biggest fan and I think, "cool, someone to talk Rockets about to", but then watching the game in the break room, they say "Bonzi's with the team again?" or something to that nature.

Here in Mexico I cant talk about the rockets, because they know just a little bit of basketball, so I come to this site to talk about the rockets, because no where else I can do that with people that appreciate this team.

I cant watch several games because here its very strange that they show the rockets, and because I go to college at night, and because almost everyday I get home at 10:30 pm - 11:00 pm, so most of the games are over by then.

My wife is the biggest Rockets fan, outside of me, that I know...

I'm serious. She wore a Mavs jersey the other night to the game, basically because she had it for work (they were "required" to wear one during the finals 2 years ago at her bank)... and she wanted to be all cute and look "divided." Whatever.

What she didn't realize was that I saw her rooting more for a Rockets comeback in that game... she was seriously forgetting her surroundings and attire. :D

Usually the only people that talk Rockets with me up here already know I'm a die hard fan, so they at least try to come with some actual up to date talk. My bro-in-law is a Rockets fan.. don't think he's on here (maybe?) but when we talk he knows his stuff enough to keep it interesting.

What irks me is when I'm on the phone with people down there in the Houston area, relatives or friends, and they have no clue how the team is doing. It pains me to no end that people with the ability to watch the games do not do so. I would LOVE to have their chances to see the games. It was all I made time for when I lived there, tv wise.

    Btw-
Obi-wan :"That list of females are all we've got."
    Yoda: "No. There is another."

    ;)

I've alluded to it before, but I have a "relative" that posts from time to time on here...

The plot thickens. For a fact.

Casual fans buy tickets, watch TV and at least contribute to the Rockets being willing to spend money on decent players. They serve a purpose.
