It's like giving up a nickel and getting back a dime. Sure it's a good deal. But what have we gained? A nickel.

    Gave it a B.

Hill, Flynn, Thabeet, conditional 2012 2nd round pick

    for

Camby, $4.5 large (Fisher's contract), Dallas first round top-20-protected pick

The conditional Rockets 2012 second round pick will likely not be transferred.

Flynn and Thabeet were and will be bench fodder. Both have expiring contracts.

Camby will get Hill's minutes and likely play better than Hill. Camby will make the Rockets a better team leading into this year's playoffs. Both have expiring contracts.

Fisher is old fart and mostly worthless. Rockets could play him as third string PG, which means he could see the floor while Lowry is hurt. Or not. The Rockets will buyout his contract at some point and he is owed about $4.5 large.

The Laker trade boils down to the Rockets taking on Fisher's contract for Dallas's late first round draft pick. The question should be this. Is a late first round pick worth $4.5 million. I am not sure of the going price for late first round picks. But it does seem a touch high.

    Portland: B-

It makes sense for Portland to start moving players it won't have after this season, and it gets a free look at Thabeet and Flynn to see if they can be a part of the solution going forward. Alas, watching Flynn for any length of time may give Blazers fans a new appreciation for Raymond Felton.

Trading Camby also may force Portland to stumble into a much better arrangement: Playing LaMarcus Aldridge at center. The Blazers can use Craig Smith, Luke Babbitt and recently acquired Shawne Williams at the 4, space the floor, and perhaps rediscover some of the vibrancy they showed earlier this season.

    Houston: B+

It's not deadline day until Daryl Morey makes a deal involving a second-round pick. In this one, the Rockets used their expiring contracts to get a better player who is also on an expiring contract; this barely affects their long-term strategy at all but it does give them a leg up in their playoff push. Expect Camby to take minutes as the backup center, and in the big picture he provides more quality size for a team that could really use some

That's not really true. If we make it the New Jersey obligation will go away and we can move on. I have been very against making the playoffs but with Portland blowing it up the best pick we will likely get this year is 13-14 even if we don't make it. Might as well get in now and give the Nets that 16th or 17th pick.

I gave it a B. I would've given it a C had it not been for that dallas pick. I think overall we got slightly better but i felt like we could've gotten a lot more with the guys that we have. I really hope Morey has something planned for the summer or else he may need to find a new job.

    What assets? Thabust and Jhill?
Thabust &Flyn for Camby, big gain for Rockets.

JHill wasn't going to improve much more, and didn't have much playing time for the next playoffs, so getting a late first round pick in a deep draft isn't a bad deal, imo.

    Dalembert/Camby
    Scola/Patterson
    Parsons/Budinger
    K. Mart/C. Lee
    Lowry/Dragic/Fisher

no Hill, Flynn, or Thabeet? B-

Much better off than yesterday, got rid of worthless players for us, brought experience (hate Fisher, but if he's going to be here at least he gives us that and another solid PG backup...) and defense (Camby) - its not a Gasol or Howard trade, but then again we would've been letting go of good players for them and not had any guarantee about how it would turn out (Dwight rental, Gasol around or past peak) so I'm fine with it.

I think we can make the playoffs with this team and give the #1 or 2 seeds a run for their $$$. I mean, I guess we could place higher but geez, who knows how this race is gonna turn out below OKC.

Maybe Hill "can" play, but can isnt consistent. Hill only seems to play well every 5 games or so, so thats fine with me.

Hill has nowhere to go but up. He was much better than Thabeet tho...I guess he can have that? Hill made stupid mistakes, had no consistent post moves, has bad hands, and more often than not brought nothing good to the table.

As long as Camby defends, rebounds some, and doesn't act like a bonehead like Hill, then he is better to me.

Trade Deadline is over and we still have question marks hovering over Marcus Morris and Squidward's head.

You just are experiencing the hatred for ex-young-Rocket players vs the love of old-has-been players. Hating what you have vs what you wanted years ago. It's a common feeling but look deeper...past the name. Hill will never be Camby's best nor will Flynn ever be Fisher's best but I think if you look at them fairly - today - you will see that the older is not currently better than the younger.

But a first round pick and two decent size expiring contracts are nice. Much nicer than dead weight

I've watched both play this season, and Hill before.

I'd rather roll the dice with someone experienced who knows what to do for their position and the team, as opposed to players that don't show much basketball intelligence or intuition. I'd rather have the 9 boards and a few points from Camby than Hill's 5pts and 4rebs per game. I'd rather see Fisher out there for 7-8 minutes than watch Flynn absurdly run around the perimeter with no plan in mind or play in motion. They are young, and have upside and potential - but they are not "better" now than what we acquired, and since potential promises nothing, they may never be. What I'm experiencing is my opinion, not to be swayed by the patronizing reasonings of another poster.
